Hello All,

This is a complaint, but also a request for help or suggestions.. The problem is as follows:

I live in the Free State, there are a few of us in my town that play CS online. Now our normal ADSL service is just fine, speed, uptime etc. is good and we are happy with that. BUT, our quality of service on the game servers is NOT.

I primarily have ADSL for online CS. And most times it's nearly unplayable for the players in my town. When things are running as they should, our pings on the servers are 16-22 and liquid smooth with no choke or loss. We are fortunate if we get two weeks of this absolute bliss. Then suddenly pings are up in the 50-80 range with spiking, choke and occasional loss, and the gameplay is jerky and quite franky terrible! So terrible in fact that at times I seriously consider closing my ADSL service. (Remember the primary reason I have ADSL is for online Counter-Strike). That is the first part of my complaint..

Now comes the second part of my complaint. When the "problem" starts up, we email/call Telkom/Saix. (I have adsl for around 4 months now and have been doing this on and off for 4 months now. My mate who lives here has had adsl for probably around one and a half years now and has been going through this merry-go round even longer. To stop digressing, what happens is, we email/call them and more often than not we get NO response from either the Telkom side or the SAIX side. This forces us to contact them again, usually mutiple emails/calls are required.

Every so often when we do get our complaint "logged" they take a few days to email us with the good news that the problem is now "fixed". It is, and our online game experience is once again blissful. Then after about two weeks IT ALL STARTS OVER AGAIN AND WE ARE BACK ON THE MERRY-GO ROUND.

My lingering question is what is it that is going wrong that Telkom/SAIX cannot fix permantly? Why do they / can't they fix the problem once and for all?!

I am fed up with Telkom/SAIX. Four months and it's the same story repeating itself (not to mention my mate who has been enduring this well over a year now).

What do I do now or where do I go from here without actually disconnecting my adsl?

Suggestions/help anyone?

Only thing you can do is to go up the line - find out who/where the Regional Technical Management is, and take it up with them (make sure you have full details of each complaint/incident). If you still get no joy, then you can go to National. This process is actually outlined in the front of the telephone book. Only remaining option (other than ranting and raving, like most of us here do from time-to-time) is to opt for an alternative service, which is currently non-existent as you well know...
