A woman from Louis Trichardt in Limpopo has been left heartbroken after a python devoured her dog.

Frikkie Venter, a snake catcher and environmental expert, said the incident happened in the 60-year-old woman's lounge, which serves her bedroom as well, in the early hours of the morning.

"The woman lives on a farm and was aware of the snake, which is usually in the fruit orchards," said Frikkie.

"She saw the snake late Saturday afternoon at her front door.

She called her dog home and closed all the doors. However, she did not close the lounge windows.

We got a certified genius here.

Protected yes, doesn't mean it can't be killed. If in your house and a danger to you or your animals you are free to euthanize it. I would have killed it for sure.
It's protected status would not enter my mind for a millisecond if it puts me or my family in danger. I laughed quite a bit at that statement actually.

The only way you can't kill it is if it happens to be faster / stronger / better than you in battle. :)

Pft, I would keep it.

I'd be sad about my mutt, but easy enough to get another one.

Will also make a great deterant for keeping the bad guys out.

I have a plastic one in my car and it still freaks out some of the security people that search my car.. even when they know it's there, and it's plastic. Though he does move around about to keep it interesting.

I'd kill the darn thing. Imagine there was a baby there, it'd have enjoyed itself on it.

Dog was probably some ankle-biter rat.

My sympathy is limited.

If you're dumb enough to leave your windows open when there's a 50kg python around, you deserve whatever happens to you or your family.

I wouldn’t fsck with a 50kg python. Rather grab the baby and run out of the house.
