Wood for smoking

Hey guys so smoker is coming early October.

I plan on doing a wood fire.

Initial thoughts were using black wattle. But the black wattle comes with bark... And I believe this should be removed.

Any good recommendations in the Gauteng and hopefully Pretoria area?

Or any other good easily to get hold of woods that i could use that bark doesn't matter.

Black Wattle seems to be one of the favourites, along with oak. Main reason for removing the bark is black wattle already produces a strong smoke flavor (sometimes overpowering) and the bark will just intensify this.

You could balance out by substituting with a hard wood like mopane which won't really smoke and will burn for longer.

Thanks! Had a look seems like black wattle mopane and rooikrans seems to be the main options.

I can easily get black wattle but most if not all have bark. Any ways to easily strip bark? Or suppliers that have already removed this.

I do however not want to buy a bag of chunks for 150 and it's 5kg
