I've seen somewhere on the net if you place a wooden spoon (or supposedly any piece of wood) over a pot it prevents it from boiling over. Does it work and will it also work for milk, and specifically milk in a microwave? That is my question for the day.

Why don't you try it and report back.

Yes it works.

And

No, it doesn't work.

It works for a pot on the stove. To a point. It works because the spoon is cooler than the steam in the bubbles, so the bubbles pop & the pot doesn't boil over.

Until the spoon heats up. Then the bubbles no longer pop & the pot will boil over.

Never tried it in the microwave - don't use the microwave other than to warm the cat's food! :crylaugh:

As Trompie said. It works to a degree. Still too much spillage for me.

This however changed everything for me. Awesome little product.

I also use it for steaming stuff in the microwave and steaming eggs on the stove.

Putting a spoon over the top of a pot will do absolutely nothing besides warming up the spoon.

Putting a lid on the top of a pot will increase the pressure inside slightly. Increasing the pressure will increase the boiling point of the liquid inside.

If you want to Milk in a microwave, stir it every 15 seconds or so and do not put the microwave on high.

Nope. Increasing the pressure increases the boiling point. For example my company makes machines to sterilise milk, at 140 degrees. But it's under about 4 bar pressure so it doesn't boil.

Don't know about milk, but if you place a wooden spoon over a pot of boiling dhal (split pea), it will stop it from boiling over.

You didn't live if your mom never broke a spoon on your arse.

Or you received the slipper treatment.
anyway, for the OP, if you let stuff boil so much you don't know how to cook. You get it to boil then turn it down so it keeps on boiling steadily.

How do you increase pressure in a household microwave safely? :crylaugh:
