My personal findings are that, in general, they are actually on par with other supermarket chains. Yes, their preprepared stuff is quite stiffly priced (due to the fact that is preprepared) and the meat (fillet, etc) is also higher but their normal, off the shelve products are generally the same price.

My 2c.

As long as it's quality, I'm prepared tp pay extra for it... if it goes down to the level of the stuff they sell in other stores, i'd be pissed.

Don't know if anyone has noticed but the price of Woolworths prepared foods have gone up, in some cases quite substantially, in in some cases the quantities have gotten smaller or the "new recipe" that they charge extra for is really the "old recipe"

I mean seriously, R22 for a chicken mayo sandwich? Hope this brings their prices down.

You are also paying for the convenience.

Some of those ready to eat meals (like my fav the Macaroni Cheese + bolognaise) is frikkkin awesome!

My level of cooking is at the cereal+milk stage, if it wasnt for woolworths i might not eat real meals!

Woolies isn't feeding you real meals...sorry to burst your bubble. I am guilty too so don't worry...

I have noticed how expensive Woolies has gotten. Middle of last year, a chicken mayo sandwich was in the region of R13.95.

A weeks worth of food, used to cost around R350 or so... Now days I don't walk out of there with less than R800 or so of food...and you'd think I am buying more!? I'm actually buying less. Everything there is expensive. What to you do tho? I cant think of another shop where I can walk in, pick a few things off the shelves and just eat it (and enjoying it). It's expensive, but convinient...and in some cases - not even that unhealthy!

I hate Woolies they feeding the square world and making us lazy!!!

Thats me in a nutshell.

A weeks food (for 2) costs me about R600 at woolworths.

Woolies food stores is killing the little guy. They became the main investor in a retail complex close to me. First step was to force the cafe to stop making its own bread, because it was in direct competition with Woolies. It was nice to have freshly made bread in the mornings, but thats past now. Sure, the shops look all nice with their new paint and upgraded look, but does it matter to the people that are forced to give up a big part of their income?

It's the talk of the town ATM. Prices seem to go up weekly. Oh, and they just change recipes without labelling it.

That's the rub, quality is not the best. It's not like Marks & Spencer, where you are obviously getting BEST and you will pay for it. Their rolls are ALWAYS stale for instance.

Disagree completely. Their groceries that are comparable with P&P are terribly overpriced. Just look at the Cornflakes for example.

For the first time in my life did I go into a woolies with my wife and have a fight about the items that they had on the shelves. The shelves were so empty on a Saturday and the items that were left were the most expensive items that no one wanted to purchase. I did not want to buy a single item, but we were there to get something to prepair for that evening. We did not buy anything and had a massive fight because of Woolies. I will buy clothes from them, but I will never go into the food section ever again and if I had my way, I would ban my wife from there also. Woolies you are going right down the toilet!

Im glad to say that I dont prefer anything made by Woolworths!:)
Ill eat but nothing to make me go out of my way to buy from them.
