Milk and bread are probably ther two items that are purchased most often. The Woolies price on these items is ridiculous. I think 2l milk is around R26 whereas at the Spar it varies from R16 to R22. PnP is even cheaper.
I raised milk and bread as convenience plays a large role as to where you'll buy it. Woolies is convenient.
Washing powder and loo paper - well those are the monthly shop items. You can plan where to get those.
Here's one thread where people compared:

And another one where they're currently discussing it, albeit with a slightly confused OP.

Albereth said:I think we should also bring Woolies clothes into the discussion. I used to be a Woolies perfect match. I could buy clothes off the rack and they'd fit. So I may have changed shape slightly but I haven't changed into a chinaman. Also, you could by clothes that were so well made that they'd come back into fashion before you wore them out. Nowadays you need to check the seams before you leave the shop otherwise you could expect a return trip.
I've generally had a good experience with their clothing. Got a couple of top notch things that have lasted me a long time. I always make sure to try whatever I'm looking at on first, though.
Albereth said:Yes, their returns policy is good. But it isn't as good as it was. Maybe they did get scammed by staff stealing items and then having someone return it for a refund. But the process now is laborius. The girl child bought some boots and found some of the stitching on one of them wasn't done properly. You can't just return it and swap. No, it has to be scanned back, then the replacement scanned out and a whole filling out of a form story. The consumer ends up doing the admin. That admin should be done by the store. Like it was when Woolies was that much better.
I've never had to return anything, luckily. They've been very helpful in tracking down things not in their store in my experience.
