I just want to check if used or not, and looking for a way to get the balance.

Take it to a store and they will check the balance at the till point.

They will scan the card and tell you how much is on it but these cards usually expire within 12 months with the amount that is on it so you might be getting nothing.

Usually with gift cards, they can be kept "alive" by adding to them, even if it's a small amount. This restarts the 12 months. On the other hand, those who lose their cards probably don't need them.
