Woolworths feels the pain

Woolworths' overall profit declined due to economic pressures and elevated living costs in South Africa and Australia, despite positive signs in food sales and online delivery.

And all their prices increased - Grilled chicken up from R99 to R109.

We usually buy the dental sticks for our dogs from Woollies and the price also went up in the last month or so from R39,99 to R49,99

Granted I am a cheapskate but my wife who regularly shops at woolies food was taken aback at the prices of country road shop. Some cheap looking dress was about R2K if I recall. I hope I am recalling this correctly - this is the shop which has an entrance from within woolies store - at least in mall of africa.

This resulted in fewer consumers visiting Woolworth’s stores and, in particular, its fashion brands, such as Country Road and Trenery, in both South Africa and Australia.

Country Road is retardedly expensive for the crap it sells in my experience.

Granted, I'm horribly biased and I'm stingy Durbanite :P

Yes, some brands within Woolworths are their own business entities, like sunglass hut who they bought from Edgars but are more of a concession stand.

When you walk into the country road section you are actually walking into another shop completely. You can pay at the same till but returns actually have a separate process.
 
I think its that other threads fault. Everyone reviewed their wifes WW credit as a result.
 
I hate going to woolies, I know I'm gonna get shafted but there are a few items that are just better quality, I would buy a lot more from them if they weren't so greedy.

I'm half a charou, from Upper Sydenham (aka The Berea), but the property prices thanks to the larney slamo's have pushed the prices of Upper Sydenham out of my reach so I had to downgrade to Pinetown
 
I actually find the Trenery boardshorts amazing.i also buy up a lot of their Hawaiian shirts and casual shirts. This year there was almost no boarshorts and Hawaiian shirts and the selection was drab and pricier.

Woolworths is trying to hard to go down the Edgar's route and will end up I the same boat eventually. Walking into Woolworths I'm greeted by name brand this and name brand that as well as the dreaded perfume stands.

Yet when I am looking for chinos or work clothes their selection has gotten smaller.

They need to up their game, they playing by a covid mindset trying to drum up support from a different customer base while alienating their own customers
 
SWAMBO usually does her monthly "homework" by gathering brochures from the major retailers and then checking where the things we need are cheapest, or where the best specials are. Woolies can be cheaper that all the others for certain things and a little pricier for others, but then the quality from Woolies is usually premium. Fresh produce, for example, we've never been let down by Woolies quality. Can't say the same for others.
