TRADING UPDATE: 20 WEEKS TO 16 NOVEMBER 2014

The Group has issued this trading update in anticipation of its Annual General Meeting to be held
on 26 November 2014.

Group sales increased by 47.5% for the first 20 weeks of the 2015 financial year over the
comparable 20-week period in 2014. Excluding the impact of David Jones, Group sales grew by
11.9%.
 
Who knows, it might only have been 45% without BDS. The anti-Israel mob actually brings out the sympathy buyers, because most people know that those who are anti-Israel tend to support views and social arrangements that are not exactly inspiring to lovers of liberty.

Well like a lot of other woollies shoppers. I only ever walk away if I can see the queues are long. So is there was some kind of boycott there might be the impression that you could expect shorter queues. That could actually be driving business.

I'll bet they sell the same amount, just they keep hiking prices. One of the shnoop companies, Pick 'n Pay is the other,.

To be honest I've never heard of this BDS (before the postings on Mybb). And honestly I don't see why middle eastern issues should affect us here in SA, where we have more pressing issues.

Woolworths probably has an up and down type of performance. They sometimes sell good products (clothes eg Country Road stuff, some food types) and also sell overpriced goods. Although sometimes their specials are very good - eg. R60 for a 100g of Nescafe Alta Rica coffee, which normally sells for R70-90+ elsewhere.

Country Road is an in-house brand owned by directors.

Their stock is constantly overpriced. For example; Cadbury's chocolate is always more expensive that any other supermarket.

They're an Australian Brand / store which has been purchased at one of other time by Woolworths. However it appears their design is done offshore and most of their customers are in NZ/AUS, where their selection is also wider. Their quality compares favourably to products made for Marks and Spencer, Mango etc.

Not always. Sometimes they sell at a good discount.

But overall I think they're doing well because they fill that comfort niche for richer people to feel good about themselves. You have upwardly mobile blacks supplementing that too.
 
Hmmm, it's Woolworths GROUP sales worldwide, and in rest of Africa, some seems to think its Woolworths Retail-in-SA sales.
Some things to note:
* Over 30% of that liberal headline figure of 47.5% is solely for the purchase of 39 stores strong David Jones.
* The rest is for all worldwide GROUP retail
* The figures are limited to a carefully chosen 20 week period only, making it meaningless. It's like waiting for a good raining period in the desert, then compare that with the same dry period last year. The result...a good headline.

Their financial year end is at the end of June.
