I am (rather frantically) trying to create something that behaves in a similar fashion to this site:

http://www.saundersalbum.com/

I know they are using this:

http://wptheming.com/2010/07/portfolio-theme/

As I came across the link to the site in the comments regarding this theme.

I am a total noob, and have never done anything remotely related to any of this, but I would really appreciate a bit of help if anyone has a clue.

Thanks a million.

*edit*

Just to clarify, I've got the theme and related plugins running, and have fiddled about trying to get it all working, I just cannot fathom how to create galleries and categories that behave like that site...

Do you have a Gallery Plugin/Extension installed?

I do not - The way that particular theme is setup, I didn't think it was necessary.

Although, as will fast become clear, I have NO idea what I am doing. :D

Ok. I suggest you google for wordpress galleries and read what's best. Once you find the correct one to use it will be a sinch to configure.
Remember wordpress is just an empty shell or treasure chest. You need to populate it with content. ;)

Yes, of course, content I have, obviously. :p

To clarify - My sister is an artist, and basically what we are wanting to do, is make a basic site... Agh, I'll just PM you the link as we've managed so far, so you can see what we are attempting.

What we are hoping to achieve, is when 'design' 'Fine Art' and 'photography' are clicked on, they lead to widescreen galleries of thumbnails of her work!

Drop your link here so others can see and help out..
Sounds like you want a post with attached images, then in the post have [gallery] or possibly set the post type to "gallery".
You might be able to use pages though (similar method to above).
Then you should be able to click Apperances -> Menu and make the pages menu items.

You shouldn't need any moreplugins than the theme as a quick scna of the theme homepgae seems to indicate that the gllery plugin is included...

Have you watched any of the vids on that page yet?

Not advisable as Google will index an incomplete site and that's bad all around, whichever way you look at it.

I'm on a 3G connection at home, so I can't go bos and see what themes and plugins and stuff is available. If the theme does have the gallery plugin installed, it's only a matter of configuring it. If it's too difficult or clunky, then a new plugin with that theme should work as well.

Okay, I'm just fiddling about with a test site...

I am using this theme:

http://wptheming.com/2010/07/portfolio-theme/

and this:

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/nextgen-gallery/

For the galleries.

***

Now, there is a gallery if you click on the 'Design' logo picture.

Okay, now that gallery, what I want it is:

GYVgD.gif

All that extraneous stuff bloody gone!

Just want the thumbnails, neat and alone!

I've no fekking clue how to do this!
