So how do you guys feel about Wordpress websites? Anyone got any cool sites for free templates?

I personally think WordPress is an amazing CMS, it can produce really stunning websites. Here are some sites that were made with WordPress: http://wordpress.org/showcase/

With Regard to free templates, you can try these links below. I was also searching for cool wordpress templates as I want to start me own blog soon...

Hi,

I was going to post a new thread to find out if anyone around here is in the business of creating their own WP themes. It seems a lot of fun.

Anyone doing it?

Most people I know get their themes from Template Monster or ThemeForest.

I have used Artisteer for generating Joomla templates and now for my first Wordpress site and it is a big time saver compared to tweaking template files. It does what it says on the tin and is a good investment if you want to make something semi-custom without getting too bogged down in CSS.

I'm just graduating onto template frameworks and looking at Gantry, Warp and T3, all of which are open source. So far Gantry is looking pretty cool if I can fully get my head around it.

tell me more about this? is this like a framework then you import the sites into this to create website?

I've just been playing with Gantry for a few days now. The people who developed it use it to create their custom templates for Wordpress and Joomla.

You basically install the framework as a plugin and a master theme which you can copy and customise. The plugin gives you a lot that you customise using gui tools but a lot of the styling seems to have to be done by editing LESS files (an extended version of CSS) which it then compiles into the CSS files. I have to say though that I think the layout system (which can be configured via the gui) is pretty awesome.

I have used Gantry in Joomla websites and experimenting with it in Wordpress as well. It definitely gives you much more control in a Wordpress environment and is only getting better. A great tool for theme developement.

If you are not a developer then stick to the free themes you find on the Wordpress site.

Most free themes comes with adds and you need to know how to properly implement it into your current site.
