Johannesburg - The National Union of Mineworkers has put forward an 18% wage demand from Eskom ahead of this year's wage negotiations, the union said on Thursday.

"Eskom has for many years treated us with contempt, but this year... the chips will be down, essential service or no essential service" said Ndlela Radebe, the union's negotiator at the electricity parastatal.

The union was also demanding the outstanding housing allowance agreed upon during the 2009 negotiations, it said in a statement.

"The NUM feels that Eskom, which has for many years failed to give its workers decent wages, will this year be forced to come to
the negotiation table running.

"The chips will be down at Eskom. We hope that Eskom will get the message loud and clear," Radebe said.

Eskom could not be immediately reached for comment

Oh wait... It's a month before the WC... Guess who are running the country.:erm:

There is no such word as negotiation in Africa. On simply burns the country to the ground to get what one wants *cough* Mugarbage *cough*

The word for negotiation in African terms is "Ransom"
