Workforce hampered by National Minimum Wage as recruitment slows

Agree. Labour policies are the biggie for me and companies not being able to get rid of staff when they really need to.

Literally stopped hiring a few years ago for that major reason. Yet cannot grow without staff. This place is a stalemate in terms of growing a business. When you take everything into account across the board, the risks simply out way the risks (intentional wording)

Load of bollocks actually...

Its VERY easy to get rid of staff, its a process yes but not a difficult one.

Very easy in a large corporation with it's own HR and legal teams that can be dedicated to such nuisance. And even they clearly have massive headaches as we read in articles all the time. Even government can barely terminate complete morons and these things drag on for months with high costs.

Hardly....

There's also the slight issue of it being a crime against humanity if you want your business to be a meritocracy capable of competing with the rest of the world.

If they do something big wrong, sure. If they're just generally useless. It is a bit harder, requires time and admin.

Exactly. See post #12 - no way of getting rid of them (to put it nastily).
That's not even the point. Even if you can fire someone easily, there's just no valuable thing that they can do for R20/h, or more because you still need someone to babysit them.

Not to mention that in an extremely violent society even a legit termination done entirely by the book can very often lead to violent reprisal and/or business sabotage. Look no further than Eskom.

Requires time and admin yes, but its not impossible to dismiss poor performing individuals, so long as you HAVE a process and follow it.

So not "VERY easy" at all then.

The two of you are on opposite extremes. Maumau days 'impossible' and you say 'very easy'.

Neither is accurate. Truth is: Labour policies in SA including termination are very restrictive as confirmed by international experts.

So the truth is somewhere in between and it definitely leans towards difficult.

Regardless of how you want to paint the picture, our labour laws do not make firing or disciplining people difficult, they just have requirements which most companies seem to try and ignore and when they do then it gets very difficult for them.

Ok most compliance departments, HR, law departments, labour specialists, government departments are all ignoring procedures. The reality is that even when done correctly it can drag on for months, is costly and disruptive i.e. Not easy

Come now, comrades. Obviously WMC is not implementing minimum wage enough!! See how capitalism attacks us, using excuses like minimum wage and evil profits and what what to shirk responsibility. We will not be fooled. This is colonialist tomfoolery. We must re-double our efforts in the struggle for a living wage for the workers and apply the minimum wage medicine more harshly! It's working because you can see by how they complain.
