13" retina MacBook pro, hosted Windows Desktop (2012 R2 VDI) and dedicated server for all VMs needed.

Sounds amazing :D
Sounds like he's compensating for something :p (I'm so jealous...)

As for what I run - fairly beefy Lenovo 15" i7 with 16GB RAM, 256gb ssd and 512gb spinner.
Several client-issued laptops.

At home I run a i5 with 16GB RAM and a mixture of screens. Have 2 servers humming away as well. The one is only a Microserver. The other is Xeon-based but I can't remember the specs :D

Laptop 1 - Linux Mint 17 Xfce is my first choice. The world 3rd most popular OS and it works! Easy, stable, secure.
Laptop 2 - Mac OS X Mavericks (my son uses this)

Macbook Air 11" running Mavericks 10.9.4 for work

To make the screen appear bigger, I sit really close
or I clamshell it with a 23" lcd if the mood strikes

Choice of OS is very dependant on choice of job and the people you have to interact with.

Notebook at work but I think with the way popi and other acts have encryption of hdd etc they should just give people desktops. Why? The amount of corporate spyware you have to deal with makes high spec'd machines as useful as that brick fire truck in the Toyota ad

I lugged a laptop around London for 2+ years. Now I have a desktop. Thank f###k :)

With VPN I can work from home. The last think I want to do is work from holiday as well.
