Does anyone else here think that in light our our home team's recent defeat, that for a country to be eligible to host the World Cup event the bidding country's own team must be above a certain ranking in world soccer teams? This would help prevent embarassing results for the chosen host nation.

We should talk about that after Bafana's last group match and the points are finalized.

Dude you realize we will be the first nation in the history of the world cup to go out the group stage? Our players do not seem able to punch above their weight

We are not out yet either. Think about it, you have a country hosting the world cup and not actually being in it. Cannot see how that would end well. We played poorly so what. Nobody made a post like this after the mexico game and if we beat france we will be heroes so just relax i reckon :D.

In SA ideology trumps reality so our participation/hosting is a victory in itself... actually playing the game at a WC level does not even factor into the equation.

Personally I hope that this is the last gasp of that kind of mentality and that after the WC SA can begin to take its rightful place in the world as an actual country with something real to contribute as opposed to being a surprising example of how the wretched of the planet can actually pull something off.

Just as in feminism we now see the 2nd wave/post feminist sentiment taking hold, I'd like to see a post liberation/struggle/apartheid South African sentiment take hold.

I know are chances are quite slim but I'm still hoping we make it through. Not so that we're not the first host nation to be out in the first round, but so that all the pessimists can be made wrong.

Still flying my flags at work and at home
