So with all the world cup preliminary squads announced, thought it would be nice to have one thread to discuss some of the players we will and will not be seeing.

So far biggest surprise for me is Benzema being left out. From France's up and coming to striker to not even making the world cup :wtf:

Also no Van Nistelrooy for Holland :( new he was highly doubtful but still had my fingers crossed. Was always one of my favourite players.
 
Benzema doesn't deserve to go to the world cup. He was appalling this season for Madrid. I do wonder why Dunga left Pato out of his squad, but it looks like he's going for physicality in the front. I think Carragher was chosen because he can slot in at RB and CB, but to be fair to him, he did have a good season. I don't know why Walcott is in the England squad though, ahead of Ashley Young.
 

Paul Scholes turns down England World Cup call-up



Paul Scholes is understood to have declined a surprise last-ditch attempt by Fabio Capello to lure him out of international retirement to play a part in England's World Cup squad.

Capello contacted Scholes, who has not played for his country since Euro 2004 but has 66 caps, to see whether he might follow Jamie Carragher's lead by emerging from his self-imposed international exile as the Italian finalised his provisional 30-man squad, announced formally at Wembley this afternoon.

They were satisfied at the time that neither was likely to change his mind and did not intend to revisit the issue thereafter, though Carragher's stance has shifted slightly after a desperately disappointing season for Liverpool.

The England management team were made aware of that much and, having successfully reintegrated Carragher into their plans, sought clarification from Scholes on his intentions. Yet the United veteran does not appear to have shared the Liverpool defender's desire to emerge from exile.

Lippi's squad is a joke, worst italia squad in years.

No cassano,miccoli,balotelli,totti or thiago motta.

The defenders can sort of be justified since ranocchia and santon aren't available because of injuries but the midfield and forwards are a joke.

Oh well there is always euro 2012.
 
Maradonna still on the good stuff I see. No cambiasso and no zanetti at wc 2010.

Walcott will do well with a deadly finisher like Rooney in the centre, wait and see his assist count

What I dont understand about Capellos squad is ledley king
 
The surprise for me is France leaving our Nasri. The boy is playing some of his best football at the moment & they leave him out? As for Benzema, he's proved himself an overrated egomaniac & France are right to leave him out on form alone.

yeah I dont know, Nasri should probably be there, but crazy Domenach has proven in the past to have little faith in him, thank g-d this is probably the last few months france will have him as coach,

wouldve loved to see france do well in this world cup here in SA :( but cant see it happening with this nut job in charge
 
What I don't get is how people can be so critical of Benzema's performances. Sure he hasn't exactly sparkled - then again... neither did Henry at Juve but look at what happened there.

I dunno, this team is decent. No need for Viera if Toulalan stays fit.. Can't believe he left Nasri out though. Not too worried about Benzema as ben arfa is hot stuff, he also has Henry Anelka and Gignac (hope wenger signs him), but i would have played Ribery, Malouda on the wings with Nasri and Toulalan in the center. I guess he will start Gourcuff (would love to see him at arsenal as well :P). He has 2 uncapped midfielders (a 19 year old youngster in there) and two uncapped defenders. I cant see that 19 year old doing more than Nasri could. I dont see Diaby doing more than Nasri so i dunno why he hasn't selected him. Very strange choice. Guess the stars weren't right in Domenech opinion. I can't believe they still have that manaic as a coach!
