The World Cyber Games has officially announced their list of game titles for 2011 and World of Warcraft: Cataclysm has been added this year!

This is exciting news for Arena enthusiasts, this is a chance for the top arena players from every country to be apart of the Olympiad of Gaming.

No further details have been announced, but if the format is similar to StarCraft or League of Legends, a qualifier will be held in at least 16 countries during the Spring, Summer, and Fall. Afterwards, the champions from each country will receive an all-expense-paid trip to the finals where they will compete for glory and an increased prize pot of tens of thousands of dollars.

For more details on the qualifiers in your country, visit the WCG website then navigate to your national page. Each national qualifier will be independently managed by an organizer located in that country, so details for each country qualifier will be announced separately throughout the Spring.

More info about the World Cyber Games:

The WCG began in 2000 and runs an Olympic-style qualifying system, this means teams from each country are only allowed to roster players from the same nation. (Teams like Team EG will have to change for this event, as Azael is Canadian and Tenderloin/Woundman are American).

This does not mean you absolutely need to break up your team for Blizzard's Tournament Realm or future MLG events, but consider reaching out to your fellow countrymen and build relationships with players closer to home.

This might disappoint some teams that run with players with multi-national backgrounds, but do not view this event that way. Compare this to the Olympics or FIFA's World Cup, it's one of the highest honors being able to represent your country in such a manner and especially in one of the World's most popular games!

As expected, some countries will have harder qualifiers than others (and expect America's qualifier to be probably the hardest). But, expect excitement coming from your fellow countrymen in-game that might not even play Arena to be rooting for you!

Good luck to all and expect more announcements in the near future!

If there are any South African WoW players who take there arenas a bit serious at all and are keen on going through qualification to attend the 2011 Grand Finals, then please let me know so that we can start getting a 3's team up and running. You can contact me at: [email protected]
If you are interested please let me ...know.

Ok 1stly Awesome! I think they know something that we don't! Spectator mode must be on its way!

But I find it very very hard to understand how this is going to work really.

Do you have any idea what a mission it is to get a standalone tournament server from Blizz? Its like moving gold from Fort Nox. Yes I can see Blizz coming and setting up one for finals etc. But doing that in 16 countries. Hell... (sure hold one here in SA, at least I will then get my hands on my own standalone arena server! Lan fun here I come :p)
I think we all know how WCG works and I'm really interested how they are going to make Wow work with it.

If I remember right they talk about it in last weeks Legendary (http://www.tankspot.com/showthread.php?74728-Legendary-Ep-18-Firelands)
