Hi there.

Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-bit

I have bought this software more than a year ago and subscription expired. For some reason I am reluctant to renew. Is it work the money and does it really work. It did a scan today and told me that I have more than 1300 privacy issues, spyware and who knows what else. I have often wondered if they don't just say so just to make you pay for the software.
Is this a good utility software to have or is there something better/more reliable? I have read that over time windows falls apart and that it is a good habit of doing a fresh install once a year, or something like that.

I will appreciate your input on this one.

No. In the case that you are really worried about cleaning certain system elements use gratis products like these https://www.piriform.com/products

The only thing these subscriptions do is to bear hug your system resources. Note, there are business solutions to address these issues, but your home environment will hardly ever require this.

CCleaner and a good antivirus, thats all you need.

I would spend that $39 on a antivirus.

Reminds me of my days as a techie. A favourite of mine was telling clients that every click they made using their mouse was recorded in Windows and that over time, all those clicks would slow down their machine and I would have to remove the clicks from memory. Also their graphics card needed to be rebooted every 6 months (for a fee) or else it would start showing icons and other images in black and white.

You are an evil man

Give me an S, give me a C, give me an A, give me an M. Whatdya got - SCAM!
Its junk, remove it.

Also remove Java, and PDF reader if you have those installed, and Flash if you can do without it.

Go to Ninite.com

Check / Install
Microsoft Security Essentials - free AV software that isn't too bad.
Any of the PDF readers (thats are not Adobe Acrobat) eg CutePDF or similar
Chrome
..any other stuff that takes your fancy.

Next,

Install Adblock on Chrome. Also install the Malware lists.
Install ClickToFlash on Chrome

You should be relatively safe now.

Make sure you don't have any extraneous plugins in Chrome if you are already a user - no toolbars or similar. Just the stuff I recommend you install above.

Tips -
Do not install multiple virus software packages, pick one, MS Defender is adequate, and just as good / bad as any of the other choices. Its also free, and quite light on the system in comparison to others so is a decent enough pick.

Adobe Products are typically major security holes - flash, pdf reader etc are common security holes that are used to infect a computer.
Abrogate that by removing them or mitigating use (eg clicktoflash).
You can whitelist domains in clicktoflash (eg Youtube, although they are moving towards serving html5 video these days)
Adblock is a must install. Adverts are also a common method of infection.
Don't use IE.
Keep Windows updated (although don't be religious about it, as most of the infection methods are things that windows are not patched for... yet).

I hope it was worth it, damn who would believe this bs...
