Hi guys,

I have wow in german language installed, bought the game there. now i need the wotlk addon, I could have it sent here by a friend, through DHL. Its quite costly, and it will take 2 weeks after release.

Now the question: i heard that the EU version can be changed to the german client. the version that will be sold in SA, will it be EU version? And if, how could i change it to be compatible with the one that is already installed?

Isn't the German one just a laguage file that can be changed ?
Maybe just get someone's Game client copy the directory and use your normal log-in. It should be fine I think.

Are you playing the game in German? And prefer to keep it that way?

The game will be released in South Africa in both EU and US versions, but since the German installation does not contain the English files you may perhaps not be able to update the game. It is however possible that the WOTLK DVD will contain a multilingual installation and it will work. Best is to ask this question on the Blizzard forums under technical issues, they respond quite fast there.

Alternatively download the English client now and convert to English then you will surely have no problem on Thursday evening...

I have also started out with the German version of the game, but since I moved back to South Africa I have converted to the full English version.

Just to clear up. Your account is still active and working 100% but the game now runs in english instead of German right ? Cos that is what I think. And I'm sure that is what the OP is looking for.

Yes account still works fine ;) All the European servers are using the same CD-Key range so even with buying a German copy you can convert it to a French / Russian / Spanish / or English one. Your account is linked to the CD-Key and not the actual game installation. You can even transfer your characters from a German realm to a English one.

Hi,

thanks for the fast reply, i found the options to change the language under the account management, i.e. from my current german to english.

Now, i just have to find out if it is necessary to change to english first. i just hope that all works with a copy that I would buy in SA...my fingers are itchy for WOTLK, and i want to explore it together with my guild friends.

Any more info is appreciated!

Yes it should, just make sure you get the EU version and not the US and it will work 100%

hmm, just received a reply from a thread in the wow-europe forum. It seems that the EU version of WOTLK is multilingual. that would save me the download of the english language file, i guess?

Yes, just go buy a EU version of WoTLK ;) and you'll be fine

go to account management page and download the right language pack there it is easy to install

But what if he wants to keep playing in German? You know item names and quest descriptions just don't sound the same. I tried for a while playing with my German friends to translate back and forth between the stuff, but in the end I just played on my German client.

But with the DVD for WOTLK being multi lingual you wont have any problems, just install it.

If you just want to upgrade your installation it will work. But as far as I know, it will not be enough to convert your full installation to the English version. You will still need the language pack if you want to play in English. The language files can be obtained from the account management page, I think...
