Would be great if Telkom stopped this

Let a single international thread on the 4mb line be able to do more than 512kbps ffs. It irritates me to see a single thread (some downloads I cannot do more than one thread) be capped ito speed.

Maybe if the base package is upgraded this will change as well.

btw who can i direct this complaint to at Telkom?

Your complaint will fall on deaf ears - maybe try something similar to Flashget which uses multiple threads to download the file at full speed? Just feed the URL link to the file into Flashget and you're good to go.

edit: unless I'm misunderstanding you, and you are in fact using something similar but can't get more than one thread?

Unfortunately there are still servers out there that do not support requests for ranges (or have the feature turned off), thus preventing multi-part downloads from working.

One thing I have noticed, if you can, download from a mirror in the far east, I regularly get speeds of 200KB/s or more on a single part download, I especially notice this with Steam game updates.

I'm not sure that telkom is necessarily throttling your download rate.

I have heard of instances where - due to the latency in the returning TCP ACK packets - the TCP protocol will not allow the traffic to flow any faster. There are ways of getting round this but you need to be changing settings on the TCP stacks at both ends of the connection to fix it.

I am not sure of the technical details though.

it is too consistent across international servers for it not to be a Telkom issue. So if I download on a single thread speed is capped at 512kpbs. If I download on a threads from the same server, download is at 4Mbps. Each thread not doing more than 512kbps.

Actually it could be a settings problem on my side but I think that is highly unlikely.
