Would there be a demand...

Hi,

My brother who's living abroad has developed a product to keep windshields from icing up overnight in the winter, and at first I didn't really think there would be a use for it here for obvious reasons (we're not exactly northern Europe), but then I thought places in the Free State for example can actually get pretty cold in the winter sometimes.

What do you think? Would there be a demand here for that type of product if I brought it in? Do some people have a problem with having to de-ice their windscreens in the morning or is it not really an issue?

It can also double as a sun shield in the summer to keep the car from heating up too bad, but there's already products for that here, so I think the main feature really is the ice protection.

Cheers,
Daniel.

P.S. to moderators: I hope this doesn't count as advertising as I'm not really saying what the product is or where to get it. I don't want to break any rules, just trying to get some opinions for market research and figured car forums would be a good place to get 'em. :D

Colder places sure.
Just do some research on importing liquids, it's a bit of a process these days.

Well it's not liquid, it's a screen, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Do you have the money to get SABS approval, and traffic authority approval and all that...

You would be altering the main windscreen, and unless the product meets certain safety and visibility standards you could run into issues...

Hm. I hadn't thought of SABS. I'll look into that, thanks.

Safety on the road wouldn't be a problem though, it's just a screen and you only put it up when it's parked, and then fold it up again when you're ready to go.

The main selling point is that you don't need to spend half an hour scraping the ice off your windscreen in the morning, you just pull off the screen, fold it up, and off you go.
