Would you buy this router?

I stumbled across this . Very aesthetically pleasing, but is a touchscreen router really something there's a market for - well apart from a larger e-peen

It's a novel idea - but I don't see the point.

And it will probably be quite pricey as well.

Not really seeing the point of the screen, but TP-Link routers are great, especially for their price. The wireless AC is also great!

Imagine the possibilities.

Network alerts e.g. showing broadband stats like average ping times
A list of currently connected devices
Quickly enabling and disabling Guest network

ect

Its quite pointless. TP-Link could have just designed a phone app that has all of these things already. Touch screens on a router are not going to take off, especially for a piece of kit that shouldn't be fiddled with once deployed and working properly.

I guess you could just tether a computer via Ethernet to figure it out. But I know a lot of people don't know how to do the basic stuff for setting up a router or navigating to an IP address, so...

Is this a router for dummies, then?

You will only get value out of this until every man and his dog around you also have their Wi-Fi network up and running.

Then it becomes as useful as a Ferrari in rush hour traffic.

If you want to spend money on a wireless AP, buy a small Ruckus like the R300 or the older 7321(not Xclaim, wasn't really impressed with it). Even in standalone mode its a great wireless AP. I have an old 7982 at home, one of the best APs ever made, but still quite pricey.
