would you go into teaching?

You always hear that teachers get paid peanuts, but my daughter has finished her engineering degree and studied to get her teachers diploma this year in order to stay alert instead of taking a gap year and was offered a teaching position, which I don't think is peanuts but maybe I have no idea what salaries are.
Its around 200K package plus a few extras, and to me that sounds very decent for a 22 year old to earn?
Ok so she hasn't really planned on becoming a teacher, but she has enjoyed the training and teaching at schools and most jobs require some working experience and this looks like a decent option to gain some working experience for a few years?

200K?!?!?

Government paid teachers start at about R145 000. After tax they get out just over or under R10 000 a month. Senior teachers with about 30 years get slightly more.

Don't forget all the school holidays teachers get. That is a LOT of paid leave. Makes the R200K look even better.

The thing with that is you have to also work in the holiday, planning lessons so not all that time is off but at least the teachers are home....

We not talking LO or history teaching here (sorry guys), where indeed she was told they start 145k, its either Maths or Science and there is 45k bonus (plus a few extras) for that.
One of her colleagues was offered 300k package (different school), but he has some experience behind him.
I think she will have great fun teaching 2 - 3 years, but she also has a couple of interviews lined up based on her actual degree, so she will see, but I think teaching is a cool way to start a career, and can be rewarding.
