I have the opportunity to go to Munich for three days in early December for +-R 4700. I'm undecided if I should go or not because I hate the long hours of sitting during the flight(about 10 hours). This tires me out very much and takes me a few days to recover from afterwards.

But on the other hand I'll miss out on seeing the Christmas markets and doing some fun things.

I'm struggling justifying spending the money for two days and the torture of the long flight vs the experience and excitement and making some new memories...

Do you have to pay for a visa too? I wouldn't. I'd rather pay 3-4K extra and go for longer.

I actually only have to pay R3500. The visa will be paid by someone else. I can stay as long as I want actually...only have to pay for accommodation then. And I lose out on income.

I hear you on the flight I avoid them as much as I can too. But in this case I would go and extend it to a weeks holiday even if I had to stay in backpackers or camp sites.

Munich is awesome, that whole Bavarian area is ripped out of a fairy tale. Its obviously very cold this time of year but the city has the christkindlmarkt going on in December. Go man you won't regret it

I have the same with long haul flights. I've found that if I drink a rehydrate type drink (https://clicks.co.za/clicks_hydration-powder-blackcurrant-6-sachets/p/122089 ) it really helps. I also use sleeping pills prescribed from the doc. N0 alcohol, tea, coffee, cokes etc. I just drink water. Sounds like no fun but it really helps with the recovery especially when flying for work.

On 'should you go' - 1000% yes. You only live once. Munich is great fun.

Go but stay longer even if you have to stay in backpacker hostels for that few extra days. Stay at least 5 - 7 days, plus 2 days of flying = 7 - 9 days, make it 10 days and feel like you actually took a holiday. Depending on what job you are in I presume you work for yourself, December is anyway dead for 90% of industries in SA.
Enjoy

Go but only if you extend the time in Munich to at least a week or else it'll just be one long jet lag. At that price and no visa costs you'd be a fool not to go, the change in perspective on it own will be priceless.

Munich is only an hour behind us. So if you keep your normal sleep cycle while on the plane you shouldn't have any problems with jet lag.

Thats dirt cheap. How did you manage that?

I'd def try to extend it - 3 days is a little short for such a long flight.

Alcohol does make the flight go faster :p

Going to try the rehydrate thing next flight, thanks.
Worst stint I've had was just over 60 hours...
Guyana -> Trinidad / Tobago -> Guyana -> New York -> London -> Nairobi ->Joburg -> East London with 2 hours sleep on the floor at NY and a short overnight in Joburg. Total of probably 6 hours sleep. I was buggered to say the least.

I would say go for it!

The same markets you see every year?
Stay for a few days longer, explore the place on a budget and have an adventure.
