Any ISDN WOW players out there? The last two weeks my latency has gone from between 400 - 600ms up to a high of 2500ms. Tonight it was sitting on a 'low' 1300ms. Anybody else experiencing the same?

ALso, if you are not experiencing it, which ISP are you through? I am willing to try another ISP just to get my normal latency back.
 
I played WoW on ISDN till the end of this month. I had to use Nukecap to get a decent ping from within the game. Although initially i was getting the same pings that you had it then jumped to over 3000ms.

I am on Mweb but it seems it was a general Telkom "feature" to mess up ISDN latency too. :(

I played WoW on ISDN for 10 months and have been very happy, with my wife and I sharing a 64k line and getting around 700ms latency. (On Tiscali). Generally latency was rock solid.

Last month my latency shot up to totally unplayable, getting disconnected. I changed ISPs from Tiscali to TelkomInternet (SAIX).

For the end of Septemeber, and most of October, I've been playing with a solid latency of 700ms again. This last week, exactly the same thing happened - latency shot up to 4k.

My feeble attempts to "diagnose" involve running a traceroute to www.worldofwarcraft.com. In both instances, there are 2 very fast hops, and then one PAINFULLY slow hop of about 4 seconds. This hop is LOCAL, within Telkom's infrastructure. My logic tells me that we're struggling with either contention, or some sort of shaping.

*sigh*.

I'm running out of options. My wife and I are addicted, but ADSL pricing/structures are crazy.
 
get nukecap for ISDN... it also works and helps latency issues for WoW a lot.

If I'm reading NukeCap's site correctly, to cover the +- 2GB that I transfer per month for WoW, it will cost me R500pm!

I'm looking at the LowPing unshaped VPN service - is that correct?

That cost is almost as much as my line, ISP and dialup costs combined!
 
i used around 200MB for WoW in a month... 2GB is too much for WoW unless you play 24/7... sadly there isnt much of a choice thanks to Telkom. :(

Well, it's about 2-3 hours per day, for me AND my wife. That's in the region of 200 hours per month. Their site estimates that 2GB will get you 192 hours - that's pretty much exactly in line with what I've seen.

For 200MB that's around 19 hours per month. :(

Nothing. That's my problem. ISDN has been such a winner.

Getting the thread back on topic... I'm pleased to say I was back to rock solid 600-700ms latency last night, so perhaps it's nothing sinister like port shaping, just typical incompetance behind the scenes.
 
well, i was getting 350-450ms regualarly on isdn128k, but over the last week or so, performance has taken a dive. Its slightly better today though, but not as good as it was, getting an average of about 600 or so now, which isn't too bad i suppose, but previously, my bar was never red at all. I'm with Imaginet.
 
I was with tiscali before i got DSL, however i was lucky to have 3 different dialing number for Durbs. They all made a difference, if you have alternate number to dial...use them.... this may help!
 
I've been playing WoW (EU realms) on ISDN (mostly 64K, but 128k on weekends) for the past 6 months. My latency's been mostly pleasant, for a long time it's been hovering around 400-500ms, which is good considering I play on a really busy realm (Dunemaul).

In the last few weeks it's been a bit messy, around 1400 with some evil lag spikes. HOWEVER, it's worthwhile noting that I started a new char during that time on another realm (Hellscream) which I believe is one of a collection of EU realms currently having problems. But even on Dunemaul it seems somewhat slower than normal.

Wonder why that is. =\
