Seems that the Internet does not have the answers im looking for lol.

Wow, what do I need to get started. Do I go to the shop and buy the expansion pack (Thou expansion means getting more from something) So what do I need in terms of software.

Im the newbie :D

Voicy's Epic WoW starter guide...

It's not been updated for the latest Expansion, but hopefully it'll give you a better idea of what's what.

Your best bet is buying a battlechest containing:

World of Warcraft, The burning Crusade (Exp.), Wrath of the Lich King (Exp.), Cataclysm (Exp.)

Try and see if you can get someone around Durban to send you the install files, since the updates can be quite big (all in all the game is about 25GB). You can copy it straight across to your drive without the need to install it.

Check with BTgames.co.za, Take2 or ZAPSonline.

You will need to buy the original game as well as all of the expansions, unfortunately. Take2, Zaps, Kalahari.net and BTGames have battlechests that include the original WoW and the first two expansions, TBC and WotLK. You will need to get the Cataclysm expansion seperately.

If it's too pricey to get everything at the same time, you can get the battlechest first and get Cataclysm at a later date. You will only need Cataclysm for 80-85 or if you want to play Worgen or Goblin.

As Voicy said, try to get the game files from someone else. The patch downloads are huge.

You can get most of the recent patches from cata at: ftp://ftp.games.saix.net/world_or_warcraft/ on local cap

Most, but not all. They way that WoW is patched has changed with the new expansion and you can no longer get downloadable patch files for the more recent patches. I haven't checked recently, but I did look for workarounds to it and couldn't find any at the time. I did read that Blizzard will make patch files available again in the future, but no timeline on when.

Simply put, for the latest patches, you will need to use the downloader.

Hi, I have a full set of keys for sale, that I bought from rpg-bay.com. I paid over R700 for it.

It's ALL the keys up to and including the latest cataclysm expansion..... You download the wowdownloader it srtreams the whole game to you..... Can be playing in 20 mins.... You just need to create a free battle net account and add the keys....

Will sell for R500 ... Bought it for my gf but she never got into it and I never activated her keys...

Please pm me to make the deal if interested

agree +1
Only buy Cataclysm when you reached lvl 85. Buy game cards either online or from BT Games / Musica etc .... buying online might work out a few rand cheaper.

or. get a mate with the full game, copy it over. buy the keys from blizzard. otherwise you going to be patching through your rear for ages

You do mostly NOT need to buy all the expansions to start playing the game, here's what you get with each expansion:

Vanilla WoW:
Note this includes all cataclysm quest and terrain updates already
Level 1-60
Kalimdor
Eastern kingdoms
Playable races:
Human, Dwarf, Gnome, Night elf
Orc, Troll, Tauren, Undead

Burning Crusade:
Level 60-70
Outland
Blood elf starter zone
Draenei starter zone
Jewelcrafting profession
Flying mounts (only outland)

Wrath of the lich king*:
Level 70-80
Northrend
Playable Death knight class (after you have another level 55 character)
Cold weather flying (northrend flying)

Cataclysm
Level 80-85
Cataclysm(high level) areas in kalimdor and eastern kingdoms
Worgen
Goblins
Archaeology secondary profession
Flight masters license(flying in kalimdor and eastern kingdoms)

If you want to start out with some race introduced in an expansion you need that expansion, but also every expansion prior to that one.
For example if you plan on starting a blood elf you will only need to get vanilla and burning crusade, while if you want to start with a worgen you will need vanilla, burning crusade, wrath and cataclysm.

*Note that wrath also introduced a new profession inscription, but you do not need the expansion to learn this.
