Since there is a huge shortage of World of Warcraft units, the brilliant business minds at EBgames.com have in their infinite wisdom decided to treat the fans of the game by selling the World of Warcraft Collector's Edition for a 'mere' $149.99. We're not talking yens here, folks, we're talking US dollars.

Whats so good about this collectors edition?
and thats about R1000 is that cheap?

No, its not cheap, its not even expensive, its stupid.
Collectors editions traditionally involve a bigger, brighter box than the non-collectors editions, and traditionally contain copious amounts of fresh air, interrupted occasionally by a game from the same developers released around about the late 80's.

And loads and loads of cheap cardboard with cheap adverts you don't want.

Vivendi/Valve are masters of the collectors edition - it's the only game franchise that STILL is selling bundled hl1 games, they seem to repackage every 6 months.

I'm waiting for Vivendi/Valve uber-box release sometime this year, with HL2, HL1, Blue shift, Team Fortress, a t-shirt, a model of gordon, a book you can read while installing everything (war and peace should do) etc. etc. etc. etc. ad nauseum :D

You also get to choose between 3 in game pets that only collectors edition users get, 2 x 15 day free demo passes and the usual stuff

2x 15day demo passes? the non collectors edition gave me and all others also 30days(1 month free) not just that you can buy a wide range of pets ingame, not like you need to pay more just for 3 unavailable ingame pets.

Saying all this, R900 is not cheap for the collectors edition. It goes for around R600 in SA and bout R550 or $90 from various online stores in the US.

I'm so glad to see everyone has done their research. The collector's ed ACTUALLY contains:

* The full game on both CD-ROM and DVD-ROM

* 1-month subscription to World of Warcraft

* The Art of World of Warcraft , 200+ page hardcover art book

* World of Warcraft Behind-the-Scenes DVD

* Exclusive in-game pet

* Official soundtrack

* Cloth map charting the continents of Kalimdor, Azeroth, Khaz Modan, and Lordaeron

* Signed Collector's Edition game manual

* 10-Day Free Guest Pass - invite one of your friends to join the epic quest

I'd happily pay good money for that. Maybe not R900 though, but that's not the standard price. That's just EBGames trying to make a quick buck what with the WoW drought.

Been playing the beta. The game is so awesome I could cry. And it ran VERY playably on my 56K modem, except for the very last day.

Would i be able to play an New Zealand / Aussie ??Asian servers? Any help or a point in the right direction would be much appreciated.

Taken from Sybawoods' post in thread ' WoW Open Beta'

There are probably about 100 South Africans playing WoW on US servers at the moment. The biggest South African guild has over 40 members, and is ranked 10th on the Stormrage server. It is quite possible to play from South Africa. You will need:

- beta copy (which patches to the full retail client)
- a valid account / cd key

For details on how to register with a valid .za credit card pm me. A lot more details about how to hook up from South Africa can be found at:

Prophecy WoW forums
SGS WoW forums

If you do dome browsing in those forums, you'll find contact details for local suppliers of account keys and game-time codes (once registered with your c/c, you get 30 days free. Additional time - 60 days - can be purchased by entering a game-time code)

Once you're hooked up, look me up:

Latency issues are virtually non-existant provided you have a good ISDN connection, or either shaped or unshaped ADSL (384 or 512). 56k dialups have reported issues when they enter heavily populated terrains.

Just on a side note , the worldofwarcraft.co.za forums also has alot of info related to getting onto WoW US or EU =P

Personally, when i eventually get going with WOW i'll go for the EU server, all online games i play play much better on the EU servers, quite a significant diff on Warcraft3, Northrend server works much better for me than the East Coast server.

Yea, there are a few guys supplying cd-keys and copies of the game for anyone that needs. CD-KEYS are around R400-R500

Dont forget about the south african hosted emulation servers that are popping up
btw they will be free
