I used to play WoW (Jan 2006) and got bored of it. I had already signed up for a 3 month subscription though. However, to my horror, about 1 week ago I discovered they had continued to bill my dad's cc. I never renewed the subscription (i.e. it should've ended in April 2006). Is there a clause in the agreement that says Blizzard can just continue billing you until you cancel your subscription over the internet?

If not, I've tried their contact numbers, listed below

Contacting Account and Billing by phone, from:

Austria: 0800 677 529 (free)
Belgium: 0800 497 63 (free)
Denmark: 80 881 086 (free)
Finland: 0800 115 269 (free)
France: 0805 305 031 (free)
Germany: 0800 101 2242 (free)
Italy: 800 985 830 (free)
Netherlands: 0800 0203479 (free)
Norway: 800 12 277 (free)
United Kingdom: 0800 931 0800 (free)
Spain: 800 099 812 (free)
Sweden: 0200 897074 (free)

I used the UK one but it doesn't dial (yes..I've used the dialling code to UK 0044) but I think it is complicated by the fact that is a toll free number.

You have to log into the account manager and tell it to cancel the subscription. You buy x number of months up front but you will see in the terms & agreement that it will assume you want to continue after that time.

Yeah, just saw that  . Rather shady that a reputable company like Blizzard do that sort of thing. It's not like they need all that money (6m+ subscribers)

The billing of your subscription plan is made on a pre payment basis. Once you have chosen a subscription plan and your payment has been accepted, your credit card will automatically be charged the amount of your selected subscription plan within seven days of the beginning of your subscription period, and then at every renewed period of subscription. You may of course cancel your Account under the conditions set forth above.

Each subscription period started will be due and will not be reimbursed. As indicated previously, the fact that you don’t play during your subscription period does not entitle you to request a refund or reimbursement of the value of your subscription.

Its not about 'conning' you I think. Its more about convenience. I for one dont want to renew every single month, so I prefer them just debiting my credit card.

dude, srsly, if you just took a few moments to review the main acc management page you would have noticed that it says, no not in the fine print, clearly next to the yellow and blue blocks that your credit card will be billed on this&that date.

Blizzard hasn't done anything dodgy/shady/scaly, it makes perfect sense that your CC will be billed when your free month/gametime runs out.

How much a shiner did your dad give you after he found the second transactions? Isn't this what it's really about? :D ;)

If the dad only found out about it after a year, I seriously doubt he is gonna go broke from this.
;)

Well guess what - I didn't log onto the main account page because I got bored of it [i.e. I didn't have a need to go on that page]. And I'm not complaining about the free month...we paid for 3 months and then it continously rebilled the CC every 3 months after that.

@Fudzy: We're working on a "deal" :D. Part of the blame lies with him because he didn't check his CC ;)

It is very good practice to just take a look at a summary of sorts which you usually get after closing deals like that being over the internet and all. I'll put a case of beer on my hunch that they do mention that your CC will be billed automatically when your gametime runs out, while creating the account.

Anyway, lesson learnt I assume ;)

I also rarely check my account, so you cant be criticized for not checking yours. BUT. The blame for that is with you, and not blizzard. They provide the tools, and its up to you to use it.

*big breath*

a subscription is a thing that recurs

for example, I buy a subscription to playboy, every 12 months it renews and I get another 12 copies. You bought 3 copies at a time, after your 3 titty magazines came, they billed you for the following 3.... ala the word subscription

Definition said:
a payment for consecutive issues of a newspaper or magazine for a given period of time

I'm sure you're furious about this. And if it was your credit card I guess you would've noticed/done something about it in 2006 already :p but yea. You live you learn. And I learned the hard way to always read **** if I have to give out money. ;)

How sure is everyone that those toll free numbers are free from SA

Phone it from a telephone booth or prepaid line

When I first started playing WoW, I also started with the 3 month subscription. I thought it was pretty clear that the terms where that you signed up for a MINIMUM of 3 months. You could then cancel. Note YOU CANCEL IT. I dont think there is anything shady about it all. You just didnt read the text fully. I didnt either, tbh, but I knew that this subsription wasnt going to stop after 3 months, unless I stopped it. Which I did. Last year. When I moved to the UK and I play on game cards now. I stopped it with no problems at all. As far as the telephone number is concerned. It does work. I phoned the UK line from SA to change my email address. And it isnt free. Those are toll free if you dial from within those countries, thats why there is a different number for each country

I don't think they will give your money back but you never know worth a try they should at least try give you some vouchers or the game time you paid for and then give it to your nephew or something.

Claim fraud on your CC then let the bank refund you, let Blizzard try get the money back from you!

Doing such constitutes fraud on your part.

Also you can't claim fraud over such a long time (can't claim more than 6 months back as far as I know).

These days, if you dont phone within 5 minutes they laugh at you

its not fraud, scam or anything. You just subscribed for a monthly payment. If you cancelled the cc payment, you wouldnt had a problem.
