Hey all,

anyone have horrible pings to WOW eu servers... started Friday?
any ideas why...
is it iburst?... or some other ISP handling the international bandwith...?

if I ping the WOW server...
I lose every 3rd/4th ping to timeout...
I tried a couple other "UK" sites... same thing... is ZA international bandwith just stuffed?

If I ping most other things and I get good reply times...
local 50-100
international 200-500...
and no loss...???

I had the same issues, I think uunet were having issues with their international access. Get used to very inconsistent performance from iburst, one day I can get 400ms in WoW, other days it's can be completely unplayable :(

Same thing with Eve-online, some days it's ok others it's totally useless, up to 35% packet loss   I wish iburst would offer an unshaped account.

Is it a true unshaped account though, only unshaped for certain software is what they say on there website. p2p, streaming, voip, etc. I need a totally unshaped account so i can play my eve-online.:D

If somebody knows if it's really totally unshaped, please post. Thanks:D

Do you think it is the shaping causing the packet loss?
not just a crappy connection?

mmm... anyone on the 9gig package playing a MMORPG on an international server?

i'd pay the R1100 if it was going to was consistantly ...

If you look at the tracerts i posted above i dont think its shaping or a crappy connection, rather some peering issues at uunet.

I play wow alot on uk servers. I have noticed massive packet loss some times....but found a way around it. I just disconnect and reconnect, make sure u get a new ip or it doesnt work. A new ip wont fix it every time, sometimes I have o do it a few times. the difference is anything from 1k to 20k latency to 400 to 700 ms when it works right :) Weird isnt it

The random packet loss of the past few days have been caused by something else and isnt possible for me atleast to be fixed by reconnecting with a new ip, as the packet loss is on the internal iburst network. Seems to b fixed now though...lets hope it stays that way.

Well I am still having some HUGE ping times and packet loss at the moment...

tried the disconnect thing.. once or twice... no difference...

How is your connection to WOW now P0tenc? still stuffed ?

Bigbob, where do you connect? My guess there must be local issues on some towers at the moment.
Try some tracert to identify where your packet loss is occuring.
Visual Route is a nice app to try.

This is my ping to google.com.
Ping statistics for 64.233.187.104:
Packets: Sent = 100, Received = 100, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 315ms, Maximum = 625ms, Average = 360ms

Thought I'd rather add my question here than starting a new thread. I'm also having major hassles with WoW since the server maintenance yesterday - I mean, latency starts off at around 600, which is fine, but withing 5 minutes it climbs to around 3-4k and the game just becomes an exercise in frustration.
The funny thing is that everything else seems fine - in DDO I'm getting a <600 latency, and browsing & downloads seem fine. I imagine it's a problem on the WoW server side rather than IBurst, but some confirmation, & perhaps suggestions as to possible fixes would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I've given up trying to figure out my Iburst problems connecting to Guild Wars. Sometime OK, mostly CRAP. Was perfect up until Jan 2006.

Now all I do when it is crap is to dial up via my cell phone using GPRS.
That isn't perfect, but it works fine.

This is what we are reduced to in ZA, settling for worse than 2nd best...

There is no service in ZA, nil , nada, zilch, aziko, niks
