Hi Guys I know this has been asked many times. I am cancelling cybersmart and want the best isp.

Please let me know what ISP you suggest and if possible your average latency/line speed and what server you play on.

Currently with Cybersmart I get

700-1000ms on 384 line US Bloodscalp Server

Nexus Semi-Shaped 400-900ms

Axxess Unshaped 500-700ms

As you can see i have 3 accounts I would like to get 1 for surfing and online gaming any suggestions?

I use the normal dobroadband connection for surfing and an axxess prepaid unshaped for wow (have them both running at the same time using some fancy routing).

Have you applied the registry hack?

I'm getting around 350-600ms on US Firetree

i've got normal Datapro 3gb shaped account, run 2 laptops off it to play wow. get latency between 400 and 500 consistantly. to Europe realms.

to get your ping down, google a program called FasterPing... dropped my latency on wow down from about 600 to 400 on avg....

I use webafrica unshaped for WoW and my latency is usually between
250ms-350ms

neva more than 390 on imaginet
Planning on swapping to webafrica sometime :)

ok how many of you guys are using 4mb lines?, or are you getting a latency of 390-500 with 384 line and unshaped WA accounts?

latency on the 4mb and 384k lines will be the same. shaped, unshaped can take from what i see up to 200ms off ur latency.

i must say I hardly noticed a difference in my ping when I upgraded from 384kb to 4mb line.

350 -450 ms with MTN HSDPA 3G.

I have seen it drop to around 250 ms late at night.

I'd recommend the prepaid unshaped account from Web Africa. It gives you the flexibility of choosing which backbone provider you go through without having to buy another account. So if SAIX is up to **** for the day, you can just switch to Verizon and not have to worry about setting up a new account or anything else...

Hack?

Hey Mr. Gangrel, which registry hack are you talking about exactly?
I am very new to this whole thing and have just ordered my copy of WOW about to start playing on the us servers, just was not sure which ISP to use. So i am finding your advice very helpful!

not sure what he is referring to but i've used FasterPing (google it) and its dropped my latency by about 150ms on average.

I use a unshaped Axxess adsl account 384kbps. i get latency of about 230ms to 350ms while running two laptops at the same time most of the time playing WoW on European servers. from what i can find out you can safely add about 100ms latency if using US servers compared to EU from south Africa.

so google FasterPing. keep its default settings when it asks for settings. then reboot as it recommends. give it a shot. in order to see the difference though, play wow without the 'hack' (its not a hack, its a change in how windows sends stuff over network) for a week or 3 and monitor ur latency, then change it, then monitor again. unshaped adsl does however make the biggest difference from what i've seen. but you can play wow fine with anything under like 700ms without having problems. only when you PvP will u notice the difference really (slightly)

Thanks Mater Albert123...
I am really finding these threads and forums incredibly informative. I can see my social life dissapearing the moment i get WOW.
I have read up a little about this faster ping thing, some guys arre saying it does not work after patch 2 or some thing?
Whats the deal there?
