this is from Rosebank (work - IS) to near Northcliff (home - SAIX)

HomeDSL 192 with Axxess account

not sure if it is technically correct to do ping the other way around, e.g. from external place to ADSL, but that is what I get ...

Grrr - that sucks.

I ping from work (IS-Digi 128) to home (512 ADSL) at a orrible 70ms.

Nevermind - seems the bottleneck is at work's FW/Router.
Doaping to stoke.gotdns.com pweeze.

well pings dont have anything to with speed well they do but its more latency gives you a good ping

look at 192 384 512 the pings are the same

I know that pings are the same irrespective of the line speed, but 20-23 ms even for local is quite good I think !!! SSH seems to me like local :-) try that with iBurst :-)

On the SGS game servers there are guys with pings in the region of 12-15ms. I'm in Cape Town, and most of the SGS game servers are in Jhb, and my pings have always averaged between 25-35ms. ADSL has always been superb for local gaming, and is a tribute to the brilliant local infrastructure we have. If only prices were cheaper, and caps were bigger / non-existent.

And yes, pings have absolutely no relation to bandwidth i.e. 192k, 384k, 512k, 1meg will all give identical pings.
