WOW n00b patch question

Hey guys,

I bought World of Warcraft like 2 yers ago and yesterday I thought about playing again. So I downloaded the latest private server I could find Ascent or something... (I'm gonna play on a LAN) The last patch I got was 1.8 :o :D. Now what I want to know is what patch I must download next? If I buy Burning Crusade or Wrath ofthe Lich King must I still download all the patches? Cause from what I hear there are a huge pile of patches I'm shorting........ :eek:
 
if you buy the expansions it includes the patches till the point where the cd was released. So if you buy wotlk it includes everything

Look on the site where you downloaded the Private server, they most likely have a forum, where you can raise these questions. Not that we don't want to help, but each private server requires up to a suirtain patch to function correctly. If the private server is for patch 2.4 then 2.4.1 will not work with it...
Added that there are hundreds of pirate server software out there, your best bet is the source.
 
Yeah, sorry, can't help. Don't know much about these pirate/illegal emulated servers and stuff. Best bet is probably to go ask them rather than people playing on the official realms.
 
OK, I decided not to play on private servers but rather on the real servers. What I would like to know is if I buy Burning Crusade and a game card, (I already have an account) will I be able to play instantly or do I need to get patches? Also where would I be able to buy Burning Crusade because I see it's sold out at Take 2:(!
