Wow... PCs are expensive

I got a quote this weekend for a new machine and was almost reduced to tears - damn! They've gotten expensive!

I asked for:

Intel Dual Core 1.8 CPU
Motherboard
1 Gig Memory
6600GT 128M graphics card.

That came to R6200!

Eish!

So, I'm going to have to try and find another motherboard for my existing system. I have the money for that system, but damn, it's a lot to spend on just those components!

Does anyone know or have a DECENT (800mhz FSB, for starters) motherboard that they want to get rid of? I have a P IV Prescott CPU. I had a LANParty board and I was absolutely ecstatic with it - I need to find something like that again.
 
Seems like your getting ripped off somewhere, put some prices next to the components.
 
Off the top of my head

E6300 - R1,600
Intel 965 Express based m/b - R800
1 GB of DDR2 800 - R1,000
6600GT - R800
Case - R500

I think somebody is ripping you off ... rather build it yourself.
 
That should be around R4 700 according to my price list, and estimate of decent components.

Asus nVidia GeForce 7600GS Silencer - 256MB - PCI-E
Price: R 1,365

Intel Box E6300 Core2 1.86Ghz Dual Core CPU-775
Price: R 1,942

KingMax 512MB DDR2
- R687 x 2 = R1 374

Decent Mobo ~ R1 500

= ~R6 100

Yeah, its a decent system thought, you can get alot worse for much less.

R800 mobo is usually okay if you have done some good research into it, but mostly R1 200 if there is something better about the board, or more up to date. Depending how you want to buy a mobo.
 
can i ask why you guys are giving price based on your dealers price lists?

is there no mark up anymore?

1400 is best price ive seen on core 2 6300 thats 1600 rand at cost?

wtf sells there hardware at cost?

do you guys sell at cost and make no money

as well there is more than 1 board some boards are 2k upwards

800 fsb board wont work core 2

yak china give us the make of each brand because it might not be a rip off

if its cheap ass stuff then yes its a rip off
 
@Yak -have to agree with you. Damn expensive now. R6k+ for a core2 duo setup and playable GPU

eg.

mobo R1200
CPU R1800
RAM R1200
GPU R1500
PSU 500

= R6.2K

All of these quotes are without software - Looks like we have a culture of pirates here.
 
Are you building it yourself?

If not, keep in mind some companies charge up to R350 for building the system.

Dont you just love it when you see an advert for a nice PC system, in the picture is a 17" LCD monitor but its not listed on the specs of the PC. I remember reading an ASA complaint about someone who bought one of these PC's and it came without a monitor and software.

And while i am here, i remember something about 'its illegal to sell a PC with no OS'. Does anyone else know this?

My last 2c worth, getting a pirated copy of windows is just not worth it. MS are getting smart. When i installed Flight Simulator it checked to make sure i have a legal copy of windows.

Or maybe I already got the software for my existing machine..

Don't jump to conclusions dude - especially when you intend on calling people pirates.
