hey guys, i have had sentech for a while now and have an antenna setup cos we couldn't get signal here, since i've had it the signal has been 9% (2 bars) but this morning when i woke up and checked the signal it was on 19% and all 4 bars on the modem! how did this happen? did they update the firmware on the towers or something?
by the way i have 128K
tower 22 PTA
19% signal

1. Maybe you on a different Tower
2. Antenna's may have been tweaked.
3. The weather is overcast
4. The tree fell over
5. You removed the patch antenna [:)]

Me too!!! I'm also connected to [22] La Montagne, Pretoria. The tower went off at 07h19 this morning and came on again at just after 09h00. The signal I have been receiving up till now (using the modem's built-in antenna) has averaged at about 14%, but has fluctuated between 8% and 16%, with a best S-N-L of 8. Not great, but my speeds and connection reliability have been fine [128 package]. I guess they must have loaded the "turbocharged" software this morning, because now I am getting 22% and an S-N-L of 17. My modem is mounted on the wall so definitely has not moved at all. I would be very interested to know what they did to make such a big difference.

Our ping times have improved as well. I've got the new firmware loaded and we're getting ping times in the low 80ms range on tower 22. Used to be much higher. Packet loss is 0%, but thats probably due to the new firmware on the modem.

Groenie

My connection to tower [22] La Montagne, Pretoria is a little curious. I have only EVER seen frequency connections at 2.506 (nb1) and 2.518 (nb2), and mostly the latter. However, Rational's tower distance calculator reports that I am 1.522km and 248 degrees from the tower, with an expected signal of 24%. I know where the tower is, so this agrees with my observations. This would make me just about centered on the nb3 lobe, but my modem has NEVER, NEVER locked on to 2.530, which would presumably be the strongest signal.

Oh good it's not just me imagining things, hehe, just checked my ping times after reading groenie's post and low and behold, i also have mid 80ms and no packet loss, this is awesome! What ever you did sentech, thank you, things just got much better! And it seems to be everybody on 22 in PTA.

As the NodeB's have their firmware upgraded to 4.2.1.8 to match your modem (if its on 4.2.1.8) you will start seeing the benifits.
In some area's even the older 4.2.1.1 will improve.

now if they would just bring some of the good stuff onto the Sunnyside tower also [:p] - been seeing crappy service for days.. but only between 6AM-5PM for some odd reason.

I'm also on [36]-Sunnyside. Modem upgraded and service sucks to be honest...

hoping for the upgrade.

OMG - wish they'd do the same to 12Mintek then ;-)...

HEhehe

Mintech should be called MinSignal!

...and Gandalf stared into the distance with a faraway look of gold...

KemoSabi, have you also noticed the traffic "shifts" ie. slow from 6AM-5PM and quick(er) at night? I long for the days where it was cool 24/7.

Greedy, it does seem to be a bit faster at night, But 10pm it seems to hit the sack again...so im thinking they try stuff on it at 10pm'ish.

Also the first month i had the service it was amazing, truly, I was so happy. then Something happened, and till this day we dont know, and sentech wont tell us, that day is when everything went wonkers...

/sigh /shrug

Hello armitage ...

You can revert to the older software by using the files ProASM posted in another topic "firmware etc" I think it's called.

i just did a ping test, quite stable, infact, average at 234ms and the 100 or so pings i did, only three were above 500ms

Why do you have to "put your two cents in"... but it's only a "penny for your thoughts"? Where's that extra penny going to?

[}:)]Hmmmm 80ms pings!!! youl smell my soiled boxers in Pretoria if that hapens to me[:D]
