Wow using socks/Proxy

Should be interesting to find out, let us know if there is anthing on this :D

BTW how would this compare to normal unshaped accounts playing WoW?

i asked this question a while ago and didnt really get response. there are a few companies providing proxies, especially for games. i phoned them at the time but they said they were upgrading it, and will let me know when the new service is up and running, but never heard from them tho :-(

kk, using freecap i pinged a Wow Socks server and got 350ms, now only if I could get the username and password. By the way Iam using HSDPA

Ok using sockscap/freecap I am not entirely sure how you pinged the server via this proxy, as socks proxies dont support the icmp protocol as it is not really a tunnel like connection.

The reason you use sockscap/freecap is to tunnel your WoW connection over another server which have a better connection than you to international destinations.

Soo instead of

PC -> adsl -> crappy shaped connection -> some international routes -> WoW

You get

PC -> adsl -> Proxy -> good unshaped connection -> some international routes -> WoW

So basically you are rerouting a certain "bad part" of the internet to a "better part" of the internet.

First of all you need a SOCKS proxy, preferably version 5 since they support UDP tunnels which you will need to play WoW with as WoW uses a udp connection.

So you tell freecap to use this proxy to tunnel connections over. Now the reason you use freecap is, because you cant tell WoW to use another socks proxy since Blizzard didn't code this in as they didn't see this as needed.

Now freecap has a work around for this. It basically captures any connections WoW make (or any other application you choose...) and convert them into socks connections which it then sends to the proxy you configured it to use.

http://www.your-freedom.net/90/ offers a service for connection to games servers. I cannot get it right. I get a error message connection refused when trying to connect to my localhost is per their settings. I would like to know if anyone can try this and see if it works

Good to hear!, now we want all details :D We are a lot of newbs here

100ms is quite an improvement!

"This version of Sockscap has expired"

And their site doesnt seem to be working anymore

Edit: Got it working thanks...

Tried Freecap and other and didnt come right, found Sockcap 2.40 (doesnt expire) and it worked first time. I used a private WoW socks server to connect to the WOW Servers and also http://www.your-freedom.net/90/ saw a improvement on the latency. Gonna test it tonight during Vodacoms happy hours to see if it works.
