Writer broken?

I bought a new dvd writer and tonight i wanted to format my RAM disc, then nero told me their is a error and it dont want to open if i press button after nero stopped...the after a whle it auto opened .

Now if i put a disc in, it wont read..it just make my pc hang a bit...

what to do now?

Return the DVD writer ofcourse. You said you bought it new so it should be under warranty. What brand is it btw?

samsung writemaster ...but never the less,, it came right itself..i just reinserted the RAM for a few secs..maby it threw the lens out of place???

I've had three samsung drives fail on me in the past but anyhow i still own 2 that work at the moment (hold thumbs). The overspeed thing is what makes me keep them. E.g. I can burn a 16x dvd at 18x speed without any problems.

Though I still prefer my LG dvd writer over it

LG? My two Samsung WriteMasters are awesome. A few years ago I had the older Samsungs, which were buggy at best, but these new ones are awesome. I've never had any issues.
