Cape Town - There is more than one Darren Scott in the world. That's what at least one man bearing the name learned the hard way.

Former Jacaranda 94.2 DJ and Supersport presenter Darren Scott uttered the k-word heard around the world, becoming a national villain and an internationally trending topic on Twitter in the process. But many South Africans have been targeting the wrong Scott on Twitter.

Most of South Africans' Twitter ire has been directed at @darren_scott, a British man and editor of Gay Times magazine.

His Twitter bio describes him as:

Scott says he was shocked to find that he was trending on Twitter on Thursday and according to one of his tweets: When I saw the name trending I wondered if I'd died in my sleep...

After receiving a flood of insulting tweets, he tweeted to his followers: "I am not the Darren Scott that is trending on Twitter. There is more than one in the world. Please check who you're insulting first, thanks."

Scott has had to respond to many tweets villifying him like this one from @SehoanaGroup: "@darren_scott hey u your shit... y do u talk kak abt us?... you ppl must leave. mxm infact FUCK U."

Despite the onslaught of bitter tweets being directed at him, Scott has maintained a cool sense of humour throughout, and has welcomed his new-found fame. "Hello to all my new followers from South Africa. I hope you like camp old women and rants about London transport," he tweeted on Thursday.

Addressing the k-word issue, @darren_scott tweeted:

He has also used the opportunity to promote his magazine, tweeting: "Am I still trending in South Africa? If so, please could you pass on a message to everyone to buy the new issue of @gaytimesmag? x"

The South African Darren Scott at the centre of a race scandal tweets under the name @JustPlainTwit, and issued this statement via his Twitter: "Dont try justify what I did. It was wrong, I know it, no matter what the circumstances. I am sorry that I offended so many, not just one."

Found this kinda funny - imagine being just a regular gay pom, and finding out that random saffers are having a go at you :D

Brilliant!

This is really funny! Good on other Darren for marketing his magazine in the process - no such thing as bad publicity, even if you weren't the intended target!

Went and read some of @SehoanaGroup tweets. What a dick!

Very professional for someone that has "President of N.P.O MZANSI'S YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS and Operations Manager at SEH Hygiene Systems" in their description. Calling people cockroaches and what not...

@SehoanaGroup: "@darren_scott hey u your ****... y do u talk kak abt us?... you ppl must leave. mxm infact **** U."

What does he mean you people ? Black South Africans showing their racial hatred again ?

Its not even funny how many blacks still believe that only white people can be racist.

That lame diatribe again? Give it a rest...

So the real Scott, although doing something undoubtedly stupid, also succeeded in drawing out the true colours of some on the other end of the colour spectrum. Show the world those comments too then, please, media!

Well they say racism creates racism, seems about right if you look at the comments :D

In my opinion people can be rightfully angry and have a go at him if they like but then they overstep the mark and show the true colours they harboured all along - eg. : "@darren_scott hey u your ****... y do u talk kak abt us?... (mxit moron obviously but okay, have your say, guy)..."you ppl must leave. mxm infact **** U." Unless my interpretation of "you ppl" is incorrect, then that bit is where the true colours come tumbling out - ie. argument null and void, mxit moron. Next...

It's a noise black people make to show disgust ;)
