The supermarket’s management issued a formal apology for the wrong halal labels on their products. The error occurred due to a system glitch. The store placed the Muslim Judicial Council Halal Trust (MJCHT) logo on labels instead of the Islamic Council of South Africa (ICSA) logo, with whom the supermarket is certified.

They can play with the pork but they can’t eat it. Too funny.

And this was the excuse:

The store placed the Muslim Judicial Council Halal Trust (MJCHT) logo on labels instead of the Islamic Council of South Africa (ICSA) logo, with whom the supermarket is certified.

It doesn't matter whose badge was on it, it's still pork and can never be Halal.

So let me get this straight. Allah supposedly creates the universe and everything in it, then he says: "Oh by the way everything I created is not Halal and requires human intervention."

Lolwut?

Bejasus here comes another war.

And somehow, this slipped through the "stringent" quality controls. And it's not the first time either.

Please tell me if Halaal labeling is a money making racket?

About a year ago, I was sent a four & a half minute video entitled “South Africa is for All of us”.
I don't know where it originally appeared and I have no link to post. It made some interesting points:
The SA halal food industry worth is$3.2 billion.
South Africa is the most developed halal ecosystem in sub-Saharan Africa.
80 - 90% of all food products in SA are halal certified.
(Global Islamic Economic Gateway)

The reality is that Muslims in SA are 1.9% of the population and cannot generate $3.2 billion alone while 98% of South Africans, Christians, Jews, Hindus, atheists etc, pay to support Islam.

I recall a recent news article suggesting that halal funds were funneled via Gift of the Givers to various terrorist groups.

Did the video state that the halal certificate imdustry is worth 3.2 billion or all the food produced that has a halaal stamp on it is worth 3.2 billion. Not quite the same thing

Irrelevant. Why should 98.2% of the country pay for Halaal certification when they don't need it? If the Muslims want it, let them pay.

Surprisingly Halaal meat is cheaper than non-Halaal meat and way cheaper than Kosher meat in my small town. I always buy Halaal if I can't find Kosher or if the price is substantially more when I do find it.

Most meat carries the Halaal mark in urban areas. Even some non meat products carry it. Complete rip off that I have to pay for it to please 1.8% of the SA population.

I'm heading to my local PnP in a little while and will check it out, but I know very few meat products at our local Checkers carry a Halaal mark. You have to look quite carefully to find Halaal labelled meats in most supermarkets in my experience.

Link to Checker's mince for you to see how few carry a Halaal mark:
