Hi,
Is it possible to disable one of the two linksys router WRT54GL antenna.
the reason i want to disble it is because i'm using an external antenna...

Thx in advance

Hey Nakkoush!

AFAIK you cannot disable one of the antennas with standard linksys firmware.

BUT...

This can easily be accomplished with a 3rd party firmware... along with changing the output power and other awesome things...

If you are looking at setting up an external antenna, you are going to want to put on more beastly firmware anyway... Standard linksys firmware is great, but very limited when you compare with these others.

Google these:

Sveasoft (OK - lots of politics around this firmware... rather just leave it alone)

FreiFunk (IMHO mcuh nicer than Sveasoft - its in German but there is an English version - also has OLSR for routing etc.)

DD-WRT (also very good - IMHO its a little flabby, but it has captive portal etc.)

OpenWRT (my personal favourite - but you may need a bit of basic shell knowledge to get around.) www.openwrt.org

All these firmwares you should be able to install from the web interface on the linksys, alternatively you can FTFP boot the device and install that way.

Good luck,

Compaqman

I'm a big fan of both OpenWRT and DD-WRT.

They're very similar in most respects, but OpenWRT requires a bit more hacking to make it do what you want it to.

DD-WRT has most packages/modules that you need 'out of the box', so I'd recommend it if you don't wish to do complex installations.

not sure

Hi,

I've just checked DD-WRT config pages. I don't see any place where I can switch off one antenna.

I did find that I can set either of the antennas to either TX, RX or Auto.
