I am looking for a online retailer who has decent i3 Sandy Bridge Laptops for sale.

I am looking to spend around 6K

Thanks guys

I actually applied for membership at esquire today. U have to be a dealer to order from them or will they sell directly to me. I take it I will have to arrange couriers myself.

mercurial, that is Samsung has the previous generation of Core i5 CPU's. Unfortunately the website doesn't tell us whether it includes Windows 7 Home Basic x64 or 32-bit.

Model: RV511
Intel Core i5 2,66GHz Processor (480M)
RAM: 3GB
Hard drive: 320GB
Connectivity:
Features: Webcam/Dual layer DVD writer
Windows 7 home basic
12 month warranty

Most of them usually have x64. One can always ask.

PS: What did you mean by previous generation of i5? Which is the older and which is the newer? I'm not quite up to speed wrt processors.

The previous generation Intel CPU's are 3 digits (xxxM) eg. 480M, where as the current (Sandy Bridge) generation of Intel CPU's are 4 digits (xxxxM) eg 2410M.
The Sandy Bridge CPU's are faster, more efficient and includes better integrated GPU's.

Don't get me wrong, the previous generation Core i5's are already pretty good, but if you can get a Sandy Bridge one for the same price, then rather go for the latest generation one. You're also more likely to get USB 3 with the Sandy Bridge notebook.

Oh okay, thanks. So the latest generation of i5 (e.g 24xx) are the Sandy Bridge ones?

I just checked Intel's website. I thought all i5 processors were quad-cores? It seems some of them aren't?

probably out of your price range but if you could stretch it, check out the aspire as7750G with the HD 6550M graphics and 17.3 display it is more expensive though, The cpu is lesser somewhat(I'm not sure what the difference is) but imo it is well worth it.

or the travelmate 5760 at esquire also a bit more than your budget but really worth it

Yes, the i5 24xx CPU's are Sandy Bridge CPU's.

All of the i5 mobile CPU's are dual core ones with hyperthreading.
Most of the i7 mobile CPU's are quad core, with the low power ones being dual core too - all of which has hyperthreading.

I'm actually quite disappointed in the previous generation Core i3's performance, seeing that my C2D T7200 (dual core without hyperthreading) CPU outperformed an i3 390M (dual core with hyperthreading) in 7-zip's benchmarking - although the passmark stats say otherwise.
