Hi guys,

Check this out. Today at about 2 PM my ADSL connection died. My modem could still see the DSL carrier but it refused to authenticate with my ISP. Later in the evening everything was sorted again and I could connect NO problem, but, I spoke too soon. My line speed is now slower and as per the telkom speed test I now have a line speed of 160kbps or 19.3kBps.

In other words, something happened on Telkom's side today and now I've got a MUCH slower ADSL speed. I have the 192 package and my line speed was always at about 35+ kBps

What do I have to do to fix this? Do I log it as a fault with Telkom? Will they understand english like that?

192k/8 = 24KB/s - that's what you've paid for and should be getting.

you were just lucky to get '384k speeds', hopefully it'll get better soon. my 384 line varies between 40KB/s and 52KB/s.

cheers :)

Well I tested the whole night through and my line speed according to the telkom speed test does not want to go higher than 160kbps. This equals to a max of 19.6kBps and that is NOT acceptable. My DSL modem still shows a line-synch of 384downstream and 192upstream but my speed on the line has definately dropped a lot after the "hickup" on my line. I'm going to report this as a line fault. Something's definately wrong.

Well last night when i got back from work i did not have adsl at all, it was dead....will check it out again toninght when i get back home did have time to check it out this morning

I am in the Bellville area and having problems getting logged in since last night and downloads are slow on my 1024 line ... called the Telkom helpdesk and apparently they are aware of the problems.

really? Thanks Tibby! this explains a lot. I also have to report that last night at about 23:00 I did see a lot of Telkom technician vans driving around and that's not normal so I think they might have had a big fault somewhere. Thanks again guys, at least I'm not alone it seems :)

They are aware but not doing anything.....its like oh wait lets stick some extra cash in out pockets this month but our clients only get half a service

NO vans driving around in my area

Just a quick update for you guys: I phoned the 0800 375 375 number logged a fault on my line. I was then phoned back by a person from Telkom in less than 15 mins (miracles still happen) and he said that they tested my line and everything reported clear. Also, he said that getting anything from 18 to 20kBps is acceptable for 192ADSL and I was only lucky to get 35kBps but it can till happen in future. 19kBps is a bit slow though....not so lekker :(

dude...make a fuss about it. Phone them again and calmly explain to them that you're running your own business and it's costing you money...they act a lot quicker then.

This is the weirdest thing ever. As from 17:00 yesterday afternoon my line speed went from 160kbps back up to 282kbps and is now stable again. Something is definately screwy on Telkom's side, but that's like saying the sun is hot...er....duh?

yip... plus, Telkom can't guarantee line speed.. ;)

Damn

That's kinda deppressing to read people with 192 connections getting almost double, my 512 would be most appreciated if it would sit more @ 1024

Anyone with 512 sitting @ a higher speed ??
