WTF!! I am so FURIOUS!!!!

Its not VC fault that they didnt get stock... Firstly that doesnt make sense, lets order only 1 000 when we know we can sell 50 000, that means we have 49 000 unhappy people who will go to our competitors ??? Doesnt make sense does it.

The problem is that the launch dates were determined by Apple and have to be adhered to, if it werent for these agreements the iPhone would not even have been launched yesterday, we recieved only a fraction odf the shipment so that the orignal launch agreements were kept, the rest of the stock will go to the rest of the 1st world countries and any countries launching this week as well.

Only option is to go to MTN if you can find stcok, problem is they also have limited stock, the difference is that they have spread it over more stores so it seems like they have more, VC centralised their distribution to create the launch at Vodaworld.... According to some sources, they sold as many as 2 000 units last night.

VC then sent out skeleton stock to their other stores to try and fulfill some orders...

I got the same sms as you but luckily i put myself on every possible waiting list and have my phone waiting for collection tonight :)

No they didn't. I read somewhere that they were sent only a small potion of what they ordered. Like mentioned above, if you could sell 50 000 units, why would you order 15 000?
 
Uh mate, that SMS is crap, I walked into a vodashop this morn and got my upgrade done, there's plenty of stock.
 
I am not looking for compensation I am just trying to point out the system is flawed!! If they have a pre-order system those people should have first right. If that is not what they intend doing then they must not promote is as such but rather as a "We Will Notify When It's Available" system.

PS stop blaming Apple. MTN have TONS of iphone 4 in numerous stores. Vodacom have huge stock supplies but they are just driving up the hype by releasing the iPhone 4 in batches. I have had info passed onto me recently by a little bird. And thats all I'm saying

So I will now relax and wait!! :)

Dudes, it is nobody's fault. It is not VC's fault, it's not Apples fault and it is not the manufacturers fault. Just understand that the demand worldwide is so frantically high, that manufacturers cannot keep up with Apple's requirements. It is unprecedented, and there are millions of new iPhone users, or iPhone wannabe users. The iPhone's don't fall out the sky, they have to be built, and they simply cannot be built fast enough for the demand

Did you pre-order or pre-register? There is a BIG difference. If you pre-order, you pay a deposit and a phone is ordered for you. When you pre-register on the Vodacom website to be informed when they iphone arrives, it does not mean you are guaranteed to get one! It seems 99% of people moaning on twitter and the forums about the iPhone 4 launch does not understand this.

I'm not sure where you are based, but if you really wanted the phone that badly, why didn't you go to one of the stores that opened at 00:00 to start selling the phone? I went to the one in Sandton Square and they still had stock left when I left there after 00:00.
 
....they didn't have this problem with the 3G & 3GS or did they?

it's pathetic.
