CyberDyne Web Site does run in FireFox, Google Chrome etc.
Thanks, taking the stylesheet off did the trick.
But seriously, they seem to have put in a bit of extra effort to make sure it only works in IE.
The CyberDyne Web Site is now supporting non-IE browsers such as FireFox, Google Chrome etc. as they have applied new updates yesterday to address these issues, but prior to these updates being applied by them, are you not being a tad petty here - especially with your comments about 'Yup, it's like sticking a plaster on a broken leg' and 'No orders from me until it works in Firefox.' ? Have you actually bothered to contact CyberDyne and ascertain exactly why their new Web Site was initially launched only to support IE .... or you just going to continue with assumptions ? We all know what assumptions are, and the fact that CyberDyne included a pop-up for non-IE browsers stating that the site at that time was only going to work on IE and they were going to address this problem in due course meant that they were very well aware of this. You guys have therefore been stating the obvious as CyberDyne themselves actually acknowledged this via the pop-up that was appearing on FireFox etc. prior to the updates they made yesterday and the question you should have been asking is 'Why did they initially support only IE ?'. They are a very good company and there obviously must be an equally good reason for this - that is at least the logic I applied and instead of bitching about it, I made the effort to contact CyberDyne and find out exactly why. While you may, or may not be interested now that CyberDyne has resolved this problem, this is what they explained to me:
They are running a SAP system which is a 'back end' in relation to the Web Site - this being the 'front end'. They had to interface the two systems together, however the SAP people were only available in September and December to work with CyberDyne's Web Developer to interface the two systems together. Because CyberDyne had outgrown their legacy CyberQuote system earlier this year already, they urgently needed to migrate to the new system and could not wait until December for the SAP people to become available - they therefore had to migrate in September. CyberDyne's Web Developer wanted to deploy in October, but because they could not leave this until December, they deployed in September when the SAP people were available and to meet the deadline, their Web Developer completed the launch site, but only IE was supported as he was not afforded the chance to include cross browser compliant code. Because it was not going to take long to provide this cross browser support, they launched the site and acknowledged the problem (FireFox etc. pop up seen when using these browsers) - knowing that they would attend to it in the very near future. This was therefore merely a timing issue in that to meet deadlines imposed they would sacrifice the cross browser support and then address it in the very next Web site update, which is exactly what they have done! When I spoke to them earlier this week, they told me that by this Friday the 31st of October 2008 this problem would be resolved, and I see that they already have sorted it out on Tuesday the 28th of October 2008. I also asked them why they did not leave up the original Web Site as a 'fallback' and then phase this out over time for which they explained to me that the new Web Site system never had any major issues at launch date - except for the lack of non-IE support. This meant that there was no good reason to retain the old Web Site as it no longer served any purpose and that is why they pulled it. I used the new Web Site on IE virtually from the first day they went live with it, and I could not locate any problems - it my opinion it was a vast improvement to the previous system and once you use the new system, you would see that there really was no need for them to keep that running, so I do see exactly where they are coming from in this regards.
Now, people like 'Ludjer' have made some really daft comments in this regards. In his opinion CyberDyne's Web developer 'obviously sucks' and he is suggesting he goes to 'school' (
http://www.w3schools.com/HTML/) - rather good when 'Ludjer' himself can't even spell correctly ('then you would have both site running parrelal') !!!! Perhaps he should attend school himself and learn how to write as this is really rich coming from him - someone who feels because he has been 'web designing for the last 3 years' is an expert. If he bothered to use CyberDyne's new system, he may well discover just how good it really is. I have placed orders in the past on the old CyberQuote system, and have also been using the new system since they deployed it last month, and I have to say I am blown away by how well this actually works. I somehow doubt that 'Ludjer', the ' have been web designing for the last 3 years' could possibly build an application to this level as once you use the system, you can see that a lot of thought and development work went into this, and this was not coded by some idiot who thinks he is a 'professional Web Developer' because he has been doing it for 3 years now. While there are obviously areas they can improve, I can only commend CyberDyne for the way this system works as everyone of my orders processed through it have been processed very rapidly and what I love about this system is the way in which it keeps you updated at all times with regards to the progress of your order. When you pay CyberDyne via EFT, the system even confirms when the money reflects in their bank account by providing statements of account, and even after they have delivered the shipment, they upload a scanned copy of the Delivery Note with the persons signature who signed for the delivery. This goes far beyond what other companies are offering and that is why I think you guys are really being petty. You obviously don't buy much, or anything from CyberDyne when you make comments about your not buying anything unless FireFox etc. is supported because unless you are running a non-PC based system like an Apple Mac, you could easily use IE while they were attending to this issue. I use IE, FireFox and Google Chrome because there are Websites for example that don't work nicely in IE, but work in FireFox and so on. What puzzles me is why you were all going on about this, when all it took was one call to CyberDyne to set the record straight i.e. get your facts straight from the start before jumping to assumptions ?????
We all entitled to our opinions which I respect, and my opinion here is that you were all making a big deal about a very minor issue in the scheme of things which has already been resolved yesterday by CyberDyne. I have never had an issue with this company, but after speaking to them about the launch sites IE only support, I have to say that they have gone up further in my estimation because few companies would take the amount of time they did, to explain this all to me and they were very friendly and honest about it - for this they have scored even more points with me because there a tons of South African companies out there that lie and bullsh*t customers, yet CyberDyne at least showed character from the very outset by not only confirming the non-IE support in writing on their Web Site in the form of that pop-up, but also they kept their promise about resolving it - for this, you have to give credit where credit is due, and CyberDyne has certainly earned this from me. I for one will continue to make use of this company as I feel they are doing an excellent job overall and look forward to seeing the other improvements they told me about yesterday which are going to be implemented on their Web site over the coming months.
