Again me and Samsung ...

I bought three Samsung Galaxy 7" Plus tablets for field use. I did this to complement the two HTC Flyers already in use (had to buy the Samsungs as the Flyers were not available anymore). And guess what ... none of the network signal monitoring apps work on the flippen Samsungs ... firmware problem. Doesn't work on my Note or 10.1 tablet either. Just Samsung having this problem. Add this to the fact that accurate data consumption monitoring is also not possible on Samsung Honeycomb tablets (10.1). The Flyers work like a dream (best small tablet by miles).

Anybody out there know of a GSM/3G/HSPA signal monitoring app (with logging) as good as Network Signal Info that actually works on Samsung devices?

I love Android. I prefer it over all the other mobile OS's. But the fragmentation is a REALITY that irritates the ..... out of me. What works on one Android device will not necessarily work on another and you only find this out when you've bought the very expensive device. I get reminded daily why Apple is doing so well. It hasn't got all the freedom and bells and whistles but it flippen works as advertised all the time. Samsung wrecks software like there's no tomorrow. Who does their software development? Grade sixes at the Chairman's school (in exchange for iTunes vouchers)?

The more I use the Samsung tablets the more I realise just how k...k they are. Samsung managed to take an already sloppy Honeycomb and turn it into something shocking. Google should never have allowed OEM's to break Android this badly.

Which each iOS upgrade some of my apps die. Par for the course I am afraid.

Never had a problem with a samsung app. Ever. I have a simple app that measures wireless information signal strength and never had problems with it. I left my tab at home or I would find out its name, but it was nothing fancy. I got apps on my sammy that are not in the IOS ecosystem.

Why not use IOS if you are so amazed at how well Apple are doing? Surely they have the apps you need? (or not, cause they dont have the apps I need).

I know you talking about tablets but just installed the Network monitoring app and works fine on my GS2 using ICS.

Have to be Android tablets. I've standardised on Android tablets. Need to work on systems already in place. Not for personal use .... business.

I hope ICS on Samsungs don't have the same problems as with Honeycomb. Yes it must be tablets as these are used in field. I will see if I can somehow get ICS on one of the tablets.

There are a few ICS ROMS running beautifully on the P7500. I have been running ICS for nearly 2 months or so now.

Another Samsung mess: KIES. Whenever I connect any of the tablets to it it informs me there is a firmware upgrade. I start the process ... it downloads the new firmware ... but then the process times out. Every single time.

ICS has been out how long ... and still we wait for Sammie to come to the party. If you don't want to wait for them then you have to do some tech wizardry (and lose the warranty). Android is a mess and Google better get this sorted out.

The best ICS ROM (Roman's) for the 10.1 ... camera problem still not resolved.

Oh thats the beauty of Android. Dont like Kies? Dont use it. Get Odin

On the one side there is the locked-down Apple ecosystem | On the other side is unravelling Android where OEM's f things up

A third option in-between? More user control with less fragmentation that does't require tech wizardry to get it to work right?

When tablets are purchased for corporate use (my case) one cannot mess around with custom ROMs on the devices. The open Android ecosystem is great for corporate use where side loading is a must, but the fragmentation and long waits for fixes and official firmware makes it less and less attractive. A third option is needed or Apple must open things up a bit because Google has lost control of the Android ecosystem (some would argue they never wanted control but hell, this unravelling must be stopped).

How I wish Apple would listen to Wozniak and open their ecosystem up more.

My P7500 is on ICS now. Camera doesn't work as expected. Signal logger does work though = more important.

Glad you sorted dude.
Soz that I could not respond to your previous question. I was in the Midlands for the long weekend with seriously kak reception. Back in JHB now and doing forum catch up.

I have never ever used the camera on my P7500 so not noticed if working or not. I do however use it on my Note a lot.

And yeah, dump Kies dude. :)

I ended up loading the latest AOKP rom. Looks great. So far the camera seems to be the only thing not working - and as you say it is not much of a muchness. Definitely worth dumping the Samsung firmware. Amazing how other people's software works better than their own ... when will Sammie get this?!
