Wtf?

No, some dogs, if you were very close to them, would stop eating if their owners goes away, some starve themselves. It is very traumatic, the dogs would not have the same quality of life now. It is better to put them to sleep.

The story does not say that happened. Though the dogs were not even given a chance to pine for their lost owner. It is sad and rather selfish that the dogs were not given the chance of living a happy life with another family.

Just my 2c.

"I couldn't find anyone willing to take the three oldish dogs and I was warned by an SPCA vet that, as a result of the trauma the animals had experienced, they would become aggressive and unable to adapt."

"There was also the chance of them dying of hunger, because they ate nothing for the first five days after his death."

I have had dogs my whole life, my dad who is 56 did also, he had a dog training school, trust me, dogs do not cope and adapt with new people. We tried it once when we moved countries, the dog did not eat and had to be put to sleep, by that time he was very aggressive and dangerous. The younger dog, managed to adapt, but older dogs do not.

I agree 100% with putting them to sleep, if you don't, you don't know the first thing about dogs. Our dogs live in our homes and some sleep on the bed, if your dogs are that close to you, you only then are entitled to an opinion.

At least they should have put in a real effort to get the dogs to adapt. If after 2-3 weeks they still didn't adapt, then sure, do it. I just don't think that 5 days is enough.

You sleep with your dog?

I doubt it can be said outright that what she had done to her dogs after her death was wrong. Why make your animals anybody elses issue when you're gone? Sure people can say they will take care of the dogs/animals, but what are you to do if you honestly cannot be sure the dogs will be treated the same way? I think it was noble and heard that many animal experts have similar clauses when they die. They do it because they know how rough it can be for the dogs...

I have just taken over a 14 year old Border Colllie. Who says old dogs dont adpt well? This dog is eating well, comes to work with me, follows me around like a shadow...well his name is Shadow!
