WWAN and Vodafone/vodacome software??

HI, I got this Sony vaio Laptop with WWAN connectivity (in addition to the normal bluetooth and WLAN), which is a mobile broadband service, it comes with Sprint Mobile software though, I wanted to find out, firstly, how does wwan work, the laptop has no sim card slot or anything, so how do I use wwan?? it cannot be the same as using a normal 3G modem with simcard cos then why the wwan ability?? is there anyway to use the vodafone connect software with wwan and then just enter sim details and login?? or am I completely missing the boat here, its jsut taht I never heard on wwan before but in the specs it is a 3G, edge, GPRS connectivity application via cell networks, I jsut don't knw how to make use of it in SA? any ideas? thanks
