If you haven't done so, please go sign the ADSL petition...

www.adslpetition.co.za

ISPs and other concerned organisations are invited to send their logos (200x60 no animations) to show their support -- email support (at) adslpetition.co.za.

Thanks to all who have already signed. Please tell everyone you know.

Forum admins... any chance of a sticky on this thread?

Could someone explain what the petition is actually for...there is the lovely airey fairy bs at the top of the page which tells me that the people signing it are supporting ICASA.

But supporting ICASA with what? The ICASA ADSL report prehaps? If so then there is a big issue I have with this, in that the report is just that a report...it is not enforcable. Once ICASA starts to work on draft and final legislation then we shall see what they really are up to. For all we know ICASA could turn around and do nothing, and everyone signing that is saying "Hey, thats cool by us"

But then again since I'm not really sure what it's for, maybe I have got it wrong.

Darren, do you still have the original "signatures" before the website was defaced? If not I will sign again.

It's just what it says it is... a petition to demonstrate support for ICASA, some of which is obviously based upon the findings document. Also, the general intention is to demonstrate our (community's) wish that ADSL is brought into line with international standards. I hope you do sign it, but that's obviously your choice.

We intend to deliver it to ICASA and other concerned parties in government and elsewhere... tentatively around the end of August/beginning of September.

Can we check if our names are down?

Stats would be cool :) I'd be interested in knowing how many folks from EL went and signed :)

Which still doesn't solve the problem that you are stating you are supporting ICASA (even if that means they do nothing or force Telkom to pull ADSL) not that you are stating the findings and recommendations of a particular piece of material which has no power yet.
I can not just blindly give support to ICASA without knowing what they are going to do.

my money

I have a gripe with all you people out there that keep on insisting that the price of the ADSL must come down. Now listen up. Stop your nonsense I have 25000 share in TELKOM and if you keep on preaching that the prices go down I AM GOING TO LOSE MONEY(how I got the shares iis none of your business).I usually post on of topic. So stop bitching and let some of us make some money

heheheh

You must be joking right?

That has to be a joke...

How can you possibly have a gripe with people who want Telkom to lower their prices so that we're not the MOST EXPENSIVE in the entire world?

That's like me having shares in Hitler and asking the Allied forces to please stop what they're doing just before D-Day. Bloody insane.

After signing this petition, I noticed that IS wasn't on the lists of companies that supports ICASA, so I sent our contact there a quick email with the address, and informing them that they can upload a banner and sign the petition.

I hope they'll do it.
