Hi

Anyone used them before?

Looking at buying a scooter and they have one R2k less than retail.

It's a bit more money but it will last for YEARS.

It also has start/stop technology so is super fuel efficient.

And it also won't fall apart.
 
Fellow at the shop has one of these Chinese scooters. He has had it about 3 years. No problems so far, it has done 45000km. It is extremely economical, a tank of fuel is R 130 and lasts 3-4 weeks. His only critisism it that it is poky up hills. It has CVT transmission
 
The problem with Chinese scooters is the quality. Generally the engine is reliable but the rest is a gamble. Some may use poor quality rubber on the hoses for example, while others may have generally poor assembly. And some will be completely fine.

I recently bought a Sym 150 new from a place in Randburg for around 15k. It's more expensive than the Chinese models but the quality is great and I love it. Also a lot cheaper and better value than the Honda. That said, the Honda PCX is brilliant, but you pay a lot for it.

They all have CVT's.

To me it's a safety content more than just a reliability concern. The bolts fall off these things and they flex terribly.

If you've rider a few scooters or bikes in your life you'll immediately feel the difference with a Chinese bike.


Cardboard brakes as well with highly questionable tyres.

Also I don't for a second believe "no problems so far" after 45000km. Maybe it hadn't exploded yet or maybe he just doesn't care about the state of the thing.

This. Stay away from these Chinese brands like Jonway and MotoMia. The plastic fades in no time, light become yellow and parts break off. They are cheap, but you get what you pay for.

Stick with the well known brands if you plan on keeping it for some time to come.
 
Sym is a brilliant make. they used to make scooters/engins for honda under license back in the day IIRC.

With that said ive got a small 125 honda bike thats 5years old and its been solid as a rock. Still get between 30-37km/l and all thats broken was a bulb and a fuel gauge that works intermittently that I suspect I didnt reconnect properly. Has 23000km+ on it.

Have only replaced tyres once and want to redo the neck bearings.
