X-Men '97

I'm up to date (epi 8). This show slaps so hard! Story is engaging af, there is so much to appreciate. Fan service is off the charts. Unbelievably it's the show that just keeps on delivering. It's easily one the best shows of '24.

This show is GOAT material on so many levels.

Finale next week, let’s see how they wrap it all up.
Yup and there are numpties who were like it's woke blah blah. I think they just jump on a bandwagon sometimes

40Min S1 Finale done & dusted. What a belter of a finale! Lots too absorb, the very end final line by Beast says it all. Don’t miss the mid-credit scene.

Phenomenal storytelling & writing. Fantastic action. Hopefully not a long wait till S2.

The original X-men was my all time fav. I collected all the 94 Fleer ultra trading cards. Collected all the figurines I could get my hands on. Collected the Marvel Ultimate Graphic novels + the Marvel Lead figurines. I'm probably the biggest X-men fan I know, even today I'm in my 40's. X-men remains my fav animation of all time. I even have the original X-men animation DVD set.

So saying this, I don't think anyone was as excited for the new 97 X-men series as myself.

And I'm sorry to say, But I don't understand why everyone is raving about this. I watched all 10 episodes and it was painful. I did not enjoy this at all. Right from the start, Storm now has a mohawk, Bishop is in the team and Xavier is assumed dead. This series was supposed to continue where the previous one left off. But all of the above is inaccurate if this is the case.
Magneto now has long hair and looks like a drag queen. Why change his outfit?, At least they changed this back later in the series. Overall it just feels like bad storytelling, There are so many changes with no explanation. Before killing Gambit, he looked like a woke hippie, I mean why?, His old charater was cool. Also rather than telling "new" stories, they go back to old villains. I dont want to see them fighting Mr Sinister again. Fighting Mastermold again. Fighting Mojo again.... There are so many untold stories they could have jumped into, Legion, Onslaught, Rachel Summers, The Age of Apocalypse etc but they decide to go back to old villains.

Even the animation. Okay today we have 4K TV's etc, So it looks much better than the original if you put them side by side. But I don't know. The new animation feels cheap.
If you rewatch the old series and you then watch this, you will notice the "story telling" is very different. The dialog borderline sucks. It feels like a drama but it jumps around and sometimes makes no sense at all.

I also did not appreciate "Phoenix" simply appearing in the last episode and as quickly as she appeared, she disappeared. Again without any real explanation.

I would give this a hard 4/10, and that's me being gracious.
