I need to do the chest x-ray / scan, so I am just checking if anyone has had any experience looking for an affordable place to do such scan, or these places charge more or less the same?

Any medicross/hospital can do a chest Xray. It will set you back about R500.

The scan, if its a CT scan can only be done at hospitals and will set you back about R5k.

For a pre and post contrast chest CT scan, it was 4300 at Netcare Sunninghill in August.

By what percentage discount is the generally accepted norm for cash?

My wife had a chest X-ray for a visa at Life Kingsbury a few months ago and I can confirm that that cost about R600, she paid cash.

There is no norm really, it depends. Some practices will give 20% percent off of pricey procedures like CT Scans.

If it is for visas, only cash will be accepted due to the fact that the procedures are not medically indicated and thus not covered by medical aids. Also expect to pay more due to the extra admin involved for visa related examinations.
